Gonna sticky it for now because there is an influx of new users here because of the ban.

Welcome to everyone reading this and to everyone already applied. For those who do the application and are now lurking: don't worry if it takes a little bit of time to be approved.

Fuck Reddit.

On censorship:

Communists are not scared of censorship. To capitulate to the censors is to admit from the start that we don't believe in our own theory. It's opportunistic, because it leads one to the depths of liberalism. After all if one is scared of being censored for being a communist, then the only solution is to toe the line and you might as well become a democrat if you're scared of saying anything that could get you banned from any big platform.

The solution is to take control of our own tools, and build dual power. And I don't mean this online specifically, I mean in every aspect of life. Many parties today make the mistake of capitulating to censorship before they are even censored, because they're scared. Then they become reformist parties, indistinguishable from liberals, diluting theory to become socially acceptable and palatable as the material conditions continue dwindling around us. Anything to get on TV.

Places such as Lemmygrad allow us to congregate, talk and have a community. But more than that, they also allow us to share knowledge and theory and learn from each other. The solution is to have both self-owned platforms and continue the struggle outside of our bubbles too. It's not all one or the other, it's both.

Lemmygrad can't be banned - first of all it's all federated. Even if lemmygrad stopped existing, every post that's federated on the dozens of instance we are linked with would still be up. You can't take down the federated web unless you take down every single federated website. Moreover, lemmygrad is self-hosted. Being self-hosted, the website can also be brought back very quickly. This is the case for any self-hosted website if you run daily backups like you should be doing anyway.

Independently hosted Internet communities like Lemmygrad are in a much better place than communities which exist as "guests" on corporate platforms like Reddit or Facebook, but we need to be thoughtful about this. This is not a problem which can be solved simply by renting dozens of VPSs. The Internet is not magic. It is composed of data centers, routing hubs, high capacity back-bones, last mile ISPs. The vast majority of the network is privately owned. Many aspects of the network are totally monopolized. There are many ways control can be exerted over it. As ecosystems like the Fediverse continue to grow, we will see this power exerted in new and unprecedented ways. Always be prepared.

Hell yeah! This has been how I've felt for a long time!

Yugopnik chadposting in these dire times is probably my favorite thing about all this. Him blazing up on stream when he heard about Charlie Kirk getting smoked was amazing.

[–] pyromaiden@lemmygrad.ml 35 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Yugopnik has zero chill and I'm all here for it. He's always been my favorite of the trio because of this.

Breaking no-violence-against-whites rules I'm guessing?

If the ban ends up being permanent, it would be good to make a public promo post inviting their refugees onto https://lemmygrad.ml/c/thedeprogram

Good thing I backed up the wiki on here. Could you move it onto Prolewiki also? I can provide raw Markdown files of all the wiki entries.

They were turning into a new Chapo subreddit. Reddit has been looking for a reason to ban them for a while I would imagine. Got too big and too left. There used to be more libs in there but most have been converted or driven off. I imagine the late stage capitalism sub won't be far behind. They are getting more and more radical and showing way too much support for China.

I wouldn't say Charlie was white. He looked red from the clips I saw.

[–] SussexSocialist@lemmygrad.ml 54 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I have been expecting this for a while now but it's a bit surreal to see it actually happen. r/TheDeprogram played an important role in my radicalization and introduced me to Lemmygrad for the first time. I never actually posted there but I have been a lurker for a long time and so I'm going to miss it. Hopefully this leads to an influx of new Lemmygrad users, I guess now the only political subreddit I'm going to browse is r/ShitLiberalsSay although Reddit will probably come for it as well soon.

[–] 201dberg@lemmygrad.ml 40 points 5 days ago

Late stage capitalism is getting pretty based too. Deprogram was becoming the new Chapo. Chapo did to me what Deprogram did for you. Turned me from a dumb little lib to a full on commie but pushing me into Lemmy lol.

Wow, I wasn't an active poster or commenter there, but the writing on the wall really made me decide to finally move to Lemmy.

Greetings comrades!

We gotta do a massive recruitment campaign on Reddit

[–] Tofutefisk@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 4 days ago

that’s how i found lemmygrad, big recruitment push on reddit during the period of moderator unrest in late 2022 lol

Man, this is some bull shit how can these zionist scum keep posting about Israel and its genocidal rhetoric and the deprogram get banned. Shit ain't right

[–] Tofutefisk@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 4 days ago

that’s corporate social media - where wrong things are right and bad things are good. that’s because of who owns them. it’s that cultural hegemony that gramsci told us about.

[–] toilet_wolf@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 4 days ago (1 children)

just like r/chapotraphouse and r/genzedong that sub was kinda like baby's first leftist space so there were a lot of people on there who were maybe a little too excited to celebrate yesterday's events (honestly some of it seemed like borderline fedposting). I knew it was a matter of time until the sub got banned.

[–] TheGreatSpoon@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 4 days ago

It was botted pretty badly as of late. I think they've been wanting to find an excuse to get rid of it for a while now

That’s okay! Bring all those comrades to Lemmy. Let the liberal redditors cry

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 38 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Anyone still using reddit is an absolute clown

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 27 points 5 days ago (1 children)

This clown's not leaving so long as r/TrueAnon still lives and breathes

[–] MaghrebiLenin@lemmygrad.ml 34 points 5 days ago (1 children)

TrueAnon getting banned is gonna be like when they hit the second tower.

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 24 points 5 days ago

I'd be telling people to move to Lemmy in commiestarwarmemes or other communities banning kirkposting for fear of getting banned, but I was enjoying myself a little too much yesterday

Im shocked it lasted as long as it did

[–] 201dberg@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 5 days ago (3 children)

💯 This
It was probably one of the largest common subs and they actually were pretty decent at turning libs into baby commies etc. I fear late stage capitalism is next honestly. That sub gets more based as time goes on. They are getting way too supportive of China for reddits liking.

Well, I sure didn't expect this post to get stickied.

Well then again, I didn't expect myself to become an active member of a smallish communist internet forum either.

I wondered how long it would take.. With that being said, welcome home new comrades! Let's discuss food sometime!

[–] ClaudeCloud@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 4 days ago

I knew that this would happen eventually but knowing that didn't me make me any less sad today. Reddit is a shithole.
