Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Folding backwards is an advanced technique

[–] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 47 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Only mastered by the seasoned fent user

To note that I witnessed someone fent folding forward using their face as a leg when I was in Winnipeg. Impressive flexibility.

We just do that to stay limber for sidewalk ice dancing season.

Judging by the comments here, I'm assuming "fent" is referring to fentanyl?

I don't get why people fuck with with fent.

Just pop 7-OH pills from the smoke shop. It's stronger than morphine, cheap, widely available, and won't fucking kill you (because there is no respiratory depression).

Generally, it's laced into something else, like street morphine or other opiates, and you get addicted instantly. Most people become addicted to fent accidentally.

Man, I hate to say it this cynically, but either live your life and try to find joy where you can, or, if your life becomes truly unlivable, end it properly. Fentanyl addiction is just a slow, painful form of suicide.

most fent poisonings are people thinking they're buying something like 7-OH but someone cut it with the cheaper fent or carfent

[–] abbotsbury@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is 7-OH actually better than kratom?

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Yes and no. It's much stronger, but tolerance also kicks in much quicker too (like an order of magnitude quicker; you'll have a tolerance in a few days, compared to several months to years with kratom). But if you're addicted to fent, kratom powder won't be enough. 7-OH is a much safer option for you than fent (though still highly addictive).

If the powder is working for you, stick with that, and save the 7-OH for special occasions.

Edit: Also 7-OH feels like you're missing something from the high. Kratom is more of a "full spectrum" effect. Kind of like dabbing cannabis concentrates vs smoking weed; the high will be stronger but less satisfying.
