God I'm looking forward to this so much

It's such a beautiful country, so much to see and do and I'll only be there a week so I'll only get to do a fraction of even the things I specifically want to do but still

I can't even begin to tell you all how lucky I feel right now

👏

Vietnam and the DPRK are on my bucket list for travelling. Vietnam soon maybe but unfortunately the travel restrictions to North Korea are still pretty strict.

Funny you mention the DPRK, because it was interesting seeing the reactions of libs in my life to mentioning my travel plans. I'd say that out of all the AES states, Vietnam raises the fewest eyebrows if you're going to travel there (except maybe Laos because most libs don't even know that one is communist). It doesn't really get propagandized against in the same way e.g. China does, so it's much less of an uphill battle to convince them it's a decent place.

I wouldn't at all be opposed to visiting the DPRK but it would definitely freak out everyone I know if I actually planned a trip there, lol

You could have stopped the sentence there

True for most communists too tbh

I actually have told people I know that I want to visit North Korea one day. Their reaction was about what you’d expect from Westerners.

A part of me has the urge to, after getting back, joke "Those American soldiers were a bunch of wimps. I had a great time in Vietnam and I didn't even bring a gun!"

If you're in Hanoi, Rural Tonkin is my favorite banh mi you can get. Superb bread. Honestly though the food everywhere is insanely good. Enjoy it!

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately I'll be on the opposite side of the country, haha.

Nice! I would love to go to Vietnam some day

If I supply a large suitcase and give you cash for extra baggage, you think you could smuggle me in? I'm working on my flexibility.

You’re living one of my dreams I’m stoked for you tony-cheer

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

I hope someday you'll get to live that dream too heart-sickle

Good luck trying to stay out of HCMC bakeries. I couldn't walk past one without stopping for a cheese baguette, tart, or donut. If I lived there, I'd weigh 15kg more.
