Soooo... Child trafficking?

[–] mitch@piefed.mitch.science 30 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It's not the most relevant to THIS guy, but in general, a government purposefully separating parents from their children with no means of reunion is one of the named conditions of cultural genocide.

Literally, it's part (e) of the UN Resolution, the 'Genocide Convention.'

... any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
*(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.[5]

We spent so long discussing the legitimate genocide in Palestine, and yet, so little on the damn genocide that has been happening within our borders since 2016.

This is also exactly what the Trump admin has been doing to Latin American migrants since the start of his first term.

Unfortunately the article says he's 18, so legally they'll say he's an adult.

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 53 points 1 day ago

Legally they’d be right.

So now it’s just regular human trafficking.

In a statement, the Homeland Security official condemned the “messaging bill” as a “clear attempt to demonize our brave ICE law enforcement — who are already facing a 1000% increase in assaults against them

Only 1000%..? Need to boost these rookie numbers guys, if you don't stop Nazis in their tracks they will walk all over you.

Also, such brave ICE officers abducting teenagers while carrying guns, couldn't think of anything less brave.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Knowing their handling of percentages, those numbers are probably just pulled out of their own asses.

[–] Speculater@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Didn't they fire the last statistician that told them the truth? I'm %1,000,000 percent certain they did.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They did indeed. I'm still waiting on how the 500% price drop Trump announced for medicine will pay out.

[–] jackal@infosec.pub 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

“Here are your medications, citizen. And here is your bag of cash to apologize for having to take our medication.”

Yeah, right.

Math. Not even once.

From now on, you can't trust any statement the government puts out. Governments have always lied to save face, but this is a new level where they don't even have to pretend to have an argument or a spin on things. It's "Oops! All Lies!" because it's easier.

Why bother coming up with a plausible scenario when all anyone wants to know is the shit that already makes them feel good?

[–] Noite_Etion@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Most accurate comment I have ever read.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 54 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The unnamed official noted that Guerrero-Cruz, a Chilean national, was arrested on Aug. 8 for overstaying his visa, which required him to leave the United States on March 15, 2023.

So are they just "randomly" arresting people and then checking their immigration status? Because that's what it sounds like.

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 35 points 1 day ago

That's what happens when you have a quota. Wasteful. Expensive. Destabilizing.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, that's what they are doing. You sound surprised.

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 23 points 1 day ago

They've abducted citizens doing this already

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What happend to the dog????

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

When he was taken into custody Friday morning, immigration agents tied his dog to a tree and then unclipped his collar, allowing the animal to run loose on Sepulveda Boulevard, according to the GoFundMe page.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-08-14/an-l-a-area-high-school-senior-was-walking-his-dog-then-ice-agents-grabbed-him (arc)

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any information on whether the dog was ultimately recovered or if he's still missing

[–] aramova@infosec.pub 2 points 42 minutes ago

John Wick needs to go after these bastards

[–] Steve@startrek.website 17 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Should I be angry that they just set it loose, or relieved that they didn’t stomp it to death for fun?

[–] InputZero@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

Yeah I was almost expecting to hear that the dog was shot on sight. Seriously what monsters abduct a child while walking their dog. Such patriotic duty.

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 day ago

I am both.

I hope dog, owner and family can reunite soon.

[–] marsza@lemmy.cafe 2 points 1 day ago

Came here to ask that too haha.
