Move further unwinds initiative to crack down on anti-competitive practices in agriculture, drugs and labor

Donald Trump on Wednesday revoked a 2021 executive order on promoting competition in the US economy issued by Joe Biden, the White House said.

The move by the Republican US president further unwinds a signature initiative by his predecessor, a Democrat, to crack down on anti-competitive practices in sectors from agriculture to drugs and labor.

The justice department welcomed Trump’s revocation of the order, saying it was pursuing an “America first antitrust” approach focused on free markets instead of what it called the “overly prescriptive and burdensome approach” of the Biden administration.

Getting pretty nervous that it really was the last election that mattered friends.

He said you would never have to vote again.

Oh I know and i believed it but even after having read Protect 2025 it's so much worse than I imagined.

He lies so much, why couldn't he have been lying about this too?

I'm sure there will be more elections on the territory of the US in the future. You just need to get through this brief interlude of total societal collapse and widespread cannibalism. Give it a century or two and you'll be back on your feet.

No, there will be elections that matter again, that's practically inevitable.

Past a certain point, though, the path back becomes increasingly long and violent.

An important goal is to try and minimise that violence

This is a disgrace. Just remember that there was a time when the justice department would refuse to make such political statements because they were supposed to be an independent agency.

So getting rid of the pro-competition stuff will help the free market? Sure, Jan.

I no longer recognize the regime's authority.

What happens if everyone no longer recognizes the regimes authority?

I stopped paying 90% of my taxes, we should all just do that to start.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

What's your plan for next May when they come to garnish wages for back taxes?

Genuinely curious as we've considered this but as much as we would love to stop funding this regime we also realize we could lose our house and have wages garnished.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So far...they won't. Right now I have a super cheap payment plan with the IRS for back taxes and each year the underpayment just gets tacked onto the balance. I have written correspondence that my agreement with them stands and I just keep making the minimum payments.

My friend has been doing this for like 6+ years and owes into the six figures. Granted the rules with this admin could change on a whim...

...but also half my jobs are 1099 so it'd be more difficult for them to garnish wages when there are no taxes taken out upfront. And with my 1099 gigs changing regularly tracking them down quickly could also be tough.

I suppose I could have my bank accounts commandeered though. Maybe I should look into off-shoring...

I also have no assets. No home, my car is a lease, etc. - so I'm not super worried short of being disappeared. In your case with the house and stuff I can understand the risk being a bigger deal for sure.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

That is awesome. I wish we could do the same without so much risk. I would have ready done it if I didn't have children to worry about...which is, of course, according to plan; keep us all on the margins with no wiggle room so any upset is a disaster thereby ensuring domestic tranquikity through stress and fear.

We can't have that. Only the companies that will give him a blow job can compete.
