President Donald Trump sparked a wave of alarm and concern on Monday night by nominating Heritage Foundation senior scholar E.J. Antoni to head the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Antoni added fuel to the fire surrounding his nomination on Tuesday when he told Fox News Digital he would likely not release more monthly jobs reports until the data issues are “corrected.”

So, now all data will present whatever picture Trump wants to see. Jobs? We've got the best jobs, the most jobs, jobs are great, couldn't be better. However, accurate data is necessary for planning and adjustment. Keeping inflation low and maintaining full employment are competing issues in the Fed's dual mandate, and without accurate data, the Fed is shooting in the dark. Not that it will matter much soon, as Trump will appoint a lackey as Chairman in May of 2026, who will push to cut rates regardless of prudence. We're steaming full-on towards that iceberg....

Yeah, if Trump wants lower interest rates inflated job number isn't going to make that happen. But he'll pick a new head of the fed in a bit over a year so I'm sure they lacky will lower rates to 0% regardless

We are pouring in NOS, baby! We are unsinkable and will burst that iceberg with American exceptionalism.

He can lie about the numbers, but the results cannot be hidden.

[–] numbermess@fedia.io 2 points 1 month ago

Maybe he's also planning on hiding the results too. Some newspaper who didn't get the message that The Numbers Are Perfect Now prints a headline like "All factories in town closed, all employees laid off!"

Suddenly everybody who works there is deported. The town cries out "THEY WERE BORN HERE SIXTY YEARS AGO, FOR FUCKS SAKE" and the camera zooms in on Stephen Miller touching his fingertips to his lips and making a kissyface "oops" before Hammertime dancing and howling "and go get them too"

If the news doesn't film it, did it really happen?

"Trump tries to distract us yet again from the Epstein files"

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago
