Me trying to locate Canada in Europe: did-i-miss-a-page

Yurop always meant "where white people lives". That's why israel is on the yurovizion.

Funny how the ural mountains defines a "continental boundary" but the alps, the rockies, the andes, the hymalayas, doesn't.

yea didn't they flat out reject morocco's attempt to join because it didn't actually have any european territory

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They also don't want Turkey, Albania and Bosnia which does have European territory, so it's most likely just due to islam

I would say most of the EU does want a Turkey, and an ongoing set of negotiations and reforms prior to membership is still going. That being said, they've been ongoing a looooooong while.

EU says they want them, and same is about Albania and Bosnia, though in their cases the negotiations are not as long.

Canada should not join the European Union because when Canada was part of the Soviet Union it fucking sucked apparently doggirl-smart

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 11 points 2 days ago

Canada was part of the USSR? I want to live in the timeline you come from.

It's because trudeau is a hardcore commie. When you're far right everything looks far left.

I guarantee most of the people who answered in the positive just like the idea of being able to get a job in Amsterdam without a visa, or buy cheaper Italian cheese. They don’t actually want to give up monetary or regulatory sovereignty, nor compete with Europeans for Canadian jobs and market share.

You do not have to hand it to Kat Kanada here, but it’s still a stupid idea that would be ultimately very unpopular if anyone took it seriously.

Giving up monetary or regulatory sovereignty in the way EU membership (or pseudomembership) requires really isn't that big of a deal. On the other hand, free movement of people and goods is actually awesome and hugely empowering.

The EU is bad of course, but guaranteeing freedom of movement and imposing consumer protections are not why. I don't think reality would be as unpopular as you're saying.

[–] EnsignRedshirt@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

I don’t think the reality of it would be that unpopular (for better or worse), I’m just guessing how the average Canadian would react if presented with the issue on its own and not framed in response to Donald Trump. I’m responding more to the unseriousness of the poll than the concept.

[–] YknsNMo000@thelemmy.club 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

nah fuck that shit. There's a price to pay for the freedom of movement and it's paid in blood by "extra-europeans". You know, the ones who dies in the mediteranea and in calais.

Either let immigrants in or don't, but the white people club have to go.

I think her name could legitimately just be her being dumb enough to think that counts as "wordplay" or something.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago

At this point just rename it to the Schengen Union.

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago

Canada/EU bad of course but I think this would cause a lot of chaos so I support it. Only if they fast tracked it to happen in like a year
