I knew he was insane after the MetaFilter drama over a decade ago (and similar antics on reddit a full 15 years ago) where he made a sockpuppet account to glaze himself and was immediately caught and outed which lead to him claiming that was his goal all along. When I have a minute I'll drop a link. He's always been this unhinged.
He had several incidents of brain damage over the years which seem to have gradually worsened his toxic delusional narcissism IIRC
Bro literally just had to shut the fuck up and draw cartoons. He chose to dive headfirst into politics that anyone with two functioning bran cells could see that history will judge as problematic.

I swear he's like that ex who seems perfectly normal to start, but after you move in and she starts telling the tale of how everyone fucked her over exactly the same -- with her doing everything, to no avail -- a wildly different picture coalesces.
