It's weird they went with showing Wing in america as the first gundam show ever when it's plot is nonsensical and it's character's are largely unlikeable. It's also got the weakest Char clone imo and the movie is weird too. Ah it's just a mess of a show.
The weirdest thing is how Sunrise wouldn't let them follow it up with Gundam X. I'm pretty sure it would have been a massive hit after Wing got big.
Yeah I could see X doing well here in the states since kid's got Gundam fever after Wing.
It probably would have its airing schedule interrupted by 
anyways (like Mobile Suit Gundam did) 
At least the mecha fandom in the states was big enough back then to get a second season of The Big O!

If I remember right, it was the Texas colony part of original Gundam that got interrupted by 9/11 - there's some good stuff at the end of that show lol.
