Wish I could grow in North Carolina. Thankfully, our governor has finally started conversation about legalization. Soon...

[–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago (4 children)

I don't know where you're buying your stuff, but in Washington State, the stuff you can get in the store is immensely cheaper than buying it illegally ever was, and it's much higher quality.

Had some family come over for a visit and they were shocked that they could purchase an entire ounce of weed for $21.

[–] javiwhite@feddit.uk 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Bro I'm paying £150 (about $200) a zed, and that's cheapish for the UK, your prices are mad; how do you guys ever get anything done?

[–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

1: Not everybody smokes weed.

2: Most people that do smoke weed do not smoke weed all of the time.

3: The $21 an ounce weed was an example of 1990s quality weed and not of the highly powerful exotic hybrid enhanced saturated stuff that you can get. Most people prefer to smoke the more expensive, more powerful, condensed stuff.

Chill mate, it's called a joke.

You sound like you need some of the stronger stuff tbh man.

[–] quetzaldilla@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There's nothing rude about their comment, maybe you need to take your own advice?

Love Washington. I take an edible when I'm having trouble sleeping. About $20 for 100mg of THC/CBD blend.

[–] javiwhite@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Perhaps they genuinely thought I wasn't aware that not everyone smokes weed, but it came across as though they were being defensive over something that was meant as a throwaway statement.

[–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Not defensive, I just enjoy answering rhetorical questions. It's a hobby of mine.

[–] quetzaldilla@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Fuck yeah.

Rhetorical questions are fun to put together and also to tear down bad takes, but it takes a lot practice which is why debate clubs in schools and communities are so critical.

Pathos, logos, ethos, my dudes.

[–] javiwhite@feddit.uk 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Exactly my point. Starting a debate over a comment is defensive in nature.

[–] quetzaldilla@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm literally saying the opposite.

People need to learn to debate ideas and digest imperfect expressions from others by engaging in curiosity, not judgement.

Ask more questions, assume less.

[–] javiwhite@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago

That isn't saying the opposite though, it's making a separate point altogether.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, healthy discourse is far better than echo chambers, but I don't think that nullifies the possibility that someone can choose to engage a person in debate for defensive reasons; I wasn't looking to debate the existence of non smokers, or whether most smokers have a daily addiction or not, I was simply curious about how the sales work in Washington state.

Id say that by responding in such a manner, they are shutting down any discourse, rather than promoting questions. I genuinely was interested in how pricing and everything else worked, so whilst the question may have been rhetorical; the curiosity was sincere.

You do you mate; but I'd say there are better hobbies out there.

Besides, I never asked how many people smoked weed, so you weren't answering a question at all, You were just being belligerent.

[–] miss_demeanour@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, I can choose from 1 local dispensary (5 min drive), about 40 rez dispensaries (7-20 min drive), or a couple old school dealers, and it's the legal local who wins 99% of the time.
The rez dispensaries are far, far better for edibles: no limit on thc level, so you can purchase 2000mg bars or whatever, whilst Ontario law limits the whole package to 10mg.

So, the meme doesn't really apply in my hood.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago

FYI, the "oversight" committees in charge of regulating those numbers are notoriously corrupt and wildly inaccurate — regardless of location. Not unlike taking some rando plug's word for it, frankly.

Grow. Your. Own. 🤦🏼‍♂️

[–] comador@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Was just in Yellowstone (aka Yellow Stoner) and was amazed to see how much they charged compared to California, Washington and Colorado.

Then I realized they cater to Wyoming and Idaho for their weed needs and it made sense from a supply/demand perspective.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

There's certainly a booming market for gouging the whitey-come-latelies, and I'm not entirely opposed to it, but... Good to hear you're smarter than that, frent. 😜

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Imagine their faces when they see the price on "pre-rolls"!

Now, fast forward to the moment they catch a glimpse of the dispo clerk sweeping up and quickly dropping that all into the pre-roll prep bucket.

Annnnd, we're back to the lesson of "fast food" being neither, eh? 🤦🏼‍♂️

[–] HenryDorsett@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As a medical patient, after moving to a state that allows it, I've found that the dispo is FAAAAR cheaper than the black market, and far more convenient.

Maybe I found a unicorn, or maybe only having the black market available made it way more expensive since it has to be covertly handled.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

It really depends on the state. In CT or MA, prices are high enough that there's room for a robust grey market. In Maine or Colorado dispo weed is so cheap and high quality I dunno why anyone would bother selling illegally.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 days ago

Its like $3.50 for an 8th at the dispensary here and in walking distance

[–] Hazmatastic@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Bruh this meme is just an ad for the product being pushed in the comments

[–] Ostrakon@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I was a total square, didn't try pot until they legalized it in my state in my late 30s. So I don't have a frame of reference for dealer weed, but all of my friends who did use cannabis all day that dispensaries are both way cheaper than what they were paying and the quality is better too.

Where I am it's not too hard to find a deal where I can get an ounce for $100. That will last me quite a while as I dry vape instead of smoking. A quarter gram in my volcano will send me to space.

Of course, I'd love to try growing my own, and I will most likely do so at some point. But the dispensaries in my area have all been wonderful, with none of the issues in this meme.

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I literally got 12 joints about the size of my pinky for a penny each. No line just a 45 min drive which is fine

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Idk if I'd want to smoke penny joints

[–] Today@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

In most states you can order it online and it shows up in your mailbox a few days later.

[–] BurgerBaron@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Seems like a local problem. Weed is cheap and abundant in Canada legally now. Sorted by lowest first, milled shows up first it's not in a separate category FYI. Maple bux too keep in mind.

Flower:

Ordering a meal is about the same or more expensive here as 3.5g of weed.

That said I kinda wanna try growing it just for fun. Hopefully it's really true it grows like a weed. I'm a shit gardener.

[–] Cocopanda@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Some of us can’t grow in school zones.

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I know someone who stopped buying weed from the dispensary because it was too expensive. They bought from "a guy" one of their friends knew.

When they ended up in the hospital, blood tests showed no THC in their system. It wasn't weed. Synthetic cannabinoids. Very nasty. Best to stay away from them.

If you need the weed, pay the price at the dispensary.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 days ago

If you need the weed, grow your own

FTFY.
