- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.

- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
- Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

Ban lengths, etc.
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org
Yesterday someone posted a link to an article in The Sun, it's headline was Britain’s migrant crisis being fuelled by Putin’s Russia and other hostile states in secret plot to destabilise UK; I feel I might just as well copy and paste my comment to that post:
The amount of shit Russia pulls without getting any kind repercussion truly astonishes me.
This.
Russia has been poisoning people multiple ntimes all over Europe and the UK with no regards whatsoever for collateral damage. The polonium poisoning made an entire restaurant a radioactive hotzone, Russia doesn't give a shit. The skripals got poisoned and where do you dump the poisonous evidence? Why, just in a bin somewhere. People died from this.
Seriously, any Russian spy found should be hung publicly from a bridge or tree, send some message back to these evil fucks.
You guys are too tied to countries. National labels apply to the poor.
Putin and his ilk are gangsters of a global level, things they do are often helped from within the governments of those places. Them torching these trucks likely means they have fingers in the German soup. Not because of some national identity or even a political ideology.
It's because there are rich people colluding to run governments and legal systems to do as they please. It's not even some illuminati cabal thing, it's just by the way the system is. If it wasn't Russia they'd just find another stooge country to do some bullshit and take the heat, they already do all the time -- "Bush did 9/11" is a perfect example. Likely kept him the presidency, oil fields and resources were taken back by the system, friends of friends are all happier. While he didn't plan it himself the people around him, the system before them and the incentives presented kinda means Bush did 9/11. You know?
I feel I might just as well copy and paste my comment to that post
I feel you might just copy and paste this comment to a lot of posts, unfortunately ...
Ikr, it's unbelievable. I wish at least there was like this one story of a leaked spy thing we did to Russia, but there seems to be nothing except support Ukraine (at least there is that).
Problen is that the right and far right happily play along with migrant "crisis", deliberatly excarbating them for their own political goals.
That's not a problem but a feature as those morons very well align with authoritatian assholes like Putin. Okay, Russia's imperialist ambitions look like a problem at first but that can obviously be solved by being on Putin's good side *wink wink*
An article in The Sun?
Jesus, people fall for the dumbest shit.
And you’re mentioning it, like you’re proud of it.
Of course, the headline sounds really reasonable this time!
It isn't easy for everybody to determine what is a credible news source and what isn't. It's getting harder every day. Those who have fallen victim to illegitimate sources still deserve respect, at least in your first interactions with them. There's a way to question an individual's source without calling them stupid.
An article in The Sun?
Jesus, people fall for the dumbest shit.
And you’re mentioning it, like you’re proud of it.
Not saying i find The Sun a credible source, they can still report on true events. I am not the one posted the article. I'm mentioning it, because I care for sharing the source.
What do you mean when you say “sharing the source”?
That the headline i mention was from an article in the sun, what else could i mean?
Ah, usually sharing the source would be to provide a link to the article. I thought I maybe missed that. Since the headline sounds just like the usual Sun fear mongering, how could I take what you write seriously? Unless you could convince me, by providing the source, that it’s not the usual trash.
Trucks were at a MAN repair facility and not at a military facility.
German Source (with additional info): https://www.mdr.de/nachrichten/thueringen/mitte-thueringen/erfurt/bundeswehr-brandanschlag-russland-ukraine-ermittlungen-100~amp.html
(edit) some translated excerpts: The Bundeswehr vehicles damaged and destroyed in an arson attack in Erfurt at the weekend were not intended for delivery to Ukraine. A spokeswoman for the Federal Ministry of Defense told MDR Investigativ on Friday when asked about this. The six trucks belonged to two Bundeswehr units in Erfurt and Bad Frankenhausen and had been handed over to MAN for maintenance. With the handover, the company is responsible for the condition of the vehicles and therefore also for their safety.
During the attack on the night of June 21-22, five trucks were completely destroyed and one was slightly damaged. They were UTF 3 and 6 trucks, an internal Bundeswehr designation meaning unprotected transport vehicle. Such vehicles are not additionally protected by armor. Trucks of this type are “the workhorse of the troops”, said the ministry spokeswoman. According to MDR information, the trucks belong to Supply Battalion 131 in Bad Frankenhausen and IT Battalion 383 in Erfurt.
This weekend's attack in Erfurt is the second of its kind on the MAN site in the north of Erfurt. On June 1, 2024, six military vehicles were also set on fire and damaged there. Three of these vehicles belonged to the Bundeswehr, the other three to the Singapore armed forces. According to MDR information, there are indications of three possible suspects in this case. The spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office in Erfurt said that the investigation into this case is currently being conducted against two suspects. The investigation is also still ongoing.
Rheinmetall has been given the largest order in the company`s history concerning logistic vehicles by the Bundeswehr. The framework-contract was now signed in Koblenz and incorporates the delivery of up to 6,500 military trucks, valued up to €3.5bn incl. VAT.
Apparently Germany is ordering some quantity of additional trucks, so I expect that the destroyed ones won't represent a huge dent.
It sounds like they're something like 500k EUR each, so that's something like 3 million EUR in damage.
