I've seen a lot of posts on Lemmy today arguing that Greta Thunberg is privileged, self-obsessed or self-promoting, that her actions are merely symbolic and useless, etc. I have to wonder whether these are part of a coordinated campaign. I hope we can all recognize someone who cares enough to put themselves in danger for the sake of others.

Greta literally risked her life for this. Israel killed ten people on the 2010 Gaza Freedom Flotilla. And Israel bombed the most recent one.

The comments about Greta doing this for self promotion are pure Zionist bots. It is the de-facto Zionist retort after illegally kidnapping Greta in international waters. And the statement has very clearly been communicated from the top down at the Israeli Hasbara department.

I can’t remember the exact quote from Herman Hesse but it’s something like, “A person cannot conceive a quality in another that they don’t also have within themselves.” The reason so many people question Greta’s motives is because they are inherently selfish and Greta’s altruism is impossible for them to understand. The only reason they’d do anything that appears to be heroic is for their own ego or self serving means.

Yes, this also explains why right-wingers always accuse others of "virtue signalling" when they try to do something helpful.

Gotta love that projection

Yeah, centrists hate anyone that makes their genocide look bad.

It's a good opportunity to block bots, trolls, centrists and bootlickers though

I take my time to request they explain their entire "argument" until they are so frustrated with their own inaccuracies they decide to stop commenting. Just had some fun with that yesterday. Make it clear to those who come after.

Don't feed trolls, please.

Greta thunberg is braver than I'll ever be and if she ran for elections I would vote for her in a heartbeat and if an armed insurrection ever occurred that she supports ever happens I would die for the cause without a second thought

This is all she's ever done. It's why I admire her. I wish I could do it as well as her.

This moment will go down in history, hell yeah Greta

[–] MrSmith@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Did anyone figure out why was she in handcuffs in France?

[–] shplane@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Same reason they have 12 police officers in riot gear walking along side Luigi. To make Greta appear to be a greater threat than she actually is.
