You can’t expect the brown shirts to resist their own guy.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 73 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's almost as if it was all bullshit to get you to donate to a organization specifically designed to enrich its officers and gun manufacturers.

[–] azertyfun@sh.itjust.works 34 points 11 months ago

That's wildly underselling it. The financial aspect is almost anecdotal. The 2nd amendment movement has only ever served one purpose above everything else: Arm white people to manage, deter, and even lynch black people, as well as to prepare for the eventual transition to fascism.

This is part of why the Great American Project was doomed to degenerate into fascism long decades Maga was a thing. Wildly racist violent thugs were given the sociopolitical power to establish this whole charade about "resisting tyranny" when it was only ever about minorities. Always. Even supposed liberals bought into this lie, eternal shame upon these useful idiots. Yet every time since the American Civil War where black people started actually organizing and exercising their 2A right ended with those rights gutted or those communities actually being fucking bombed. That should have been pretty telling. But Americans collectively kept up the repeatedly disproven pretense that this was about "fundamental rights".

Anyway if you can't tell recent events have got me pretty fired up about the innumerable ways in which american self-mythology has only ever served fascist agendas.

They won't do that. Every time some fucking pig uses their horse to step on a protestor they nut.

The NRA Supported Gun Control When the Black Panthers Had the Weapons

Throughout the late 1960s, the militant Black nationalist group used their understanding of the finer details of California’s gun laws to underscore their political statements about the subjugation of African-Americans. In 1967, 30 members of the Black Panthers protested on the steps of the California statehouse armed with .357 Magnums, 12-gauge shotguns and .45-caliber pistols and announced, “The time has come for Black people to arm themselves.”

The display so frightened politicians—including California governor Ronald Reagan—that it helped to pass the Mulford Act, a state bill prohibiting the open carry of loaded firearms, along with an addendum prohibiting loaded firearms in the state Capitol. The 1967 bill took California down the path to having some of the strictest gun laws in America and helped jumpstart a surge of national gun control restrictions.

...

In contrast to the NRA’s rigid opposition to gun control in today’s America, the organization fought alongside the government for stricter gun regulations in the 1960s. This was part of an effort to keep guns out of the hands of African-Americans as racial tensions in the nation grew. The NRA felt especially threatened by the Black Panthers, whose well-photographed carrying of weapons in public spaces was entirely legal in the state of California, where they were based.

NRA seems like a bunch of sniveling, boot-licking, white nationalist fascists IMO

[–] x0x7@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

This is why most gun owners prefer GOA. NRA just inserts itself as the face of gun owners, doesn't actually represent us. GOA is actually libertarian, is for armed citizens not militarized cops. Stays in its lane with politics. Doesn't go out of its way to get bad PR with left.

Thinking gun owners like the NRA is about on the same level as thinking we shoot clips. They are the AARP of guns. They exist only to collect money from idiots.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 30 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Uh, the average level of American marksmanship that we've seen suggests that tyranny is perfectly safe.

Suddenly, the storm troopers in Star Wars make sense

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago (2 children)

300 yards with iron sights on an AR platform is pretty tough. I'm assuming that's the shot you're referring to.

Best they can do is wing a few reporters.

Read this as "Cmon do a racist tyranny" at first. Like, damn thats pretty mask off, and hello welcome to the last decade...

But yeah, "resist" works too.

Sorry they only fight against improving the lives of people not actual tyranny

[–] Pilferjinx@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

Don't tread on me pointing a gun at you.

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 26 points 11 months ago

Oh they will rise up, but it will be on the side of tyranny.

[–] tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

NRA obviously isn't going to help us, but your local Socialist Rifle Association would be more amenable to resisting tyranny. If there is no chapter in your area get some like minded friends together and start one.

Edit: How could I forget your local John Brown Gun Club, good number of chapters around the country and they will be comrades.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

SRA is pretty explicit about not being a "militia" of any kind. Good place to meet cool people, but they won't be resisting under the SRA banner. John Brown Gun Club on the other hand is a little less timid about showing up to protect people.

The marines were just deployed domestically (blatantly unconstitutional) and they complied with the unlawful order. They are part of the fascist insurrection.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 14 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Military coups happen, that’s why Trump replaced all the generals that might stand against him

[–] darthelmet@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

How often are those military coups AGAINST the fascists? Hell a lot of those military coups were backed by our military/intelligence agencies. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for the US military to be the bastion against tyranny.

I mean, you're right, but it's because of their demographics and proximity to the situation that I said what I said.

Few NRA members will be in any position to intervene or see the reality first-hand. Meanwhile, Marines have seen their spouses and other relatives deported in recent months. Trump was an idiot to deploy them like so, as opposed just about any other branch of the active-duty military.

[–] Schadrach@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Marines have seen their spouses and other relatives deported in recent months. Trump was an idiot to deploy them like so, as opposed just about any other branch of the active-duty military.

I take it Marines are especially likely to have family or spouses that are here illegally, for some reason?

[–] Machinist@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (5 children)

Per Congress:

As of February 2024, more than 40,000 foreign nationals were serving in active and reserve components of the Armed Forces. An estimated additional 115,000 foreign nationals residing in the United States are veterans who have previously served on active duty.

Service guarantees citizenship. We've got so many immigrants in the military. Heavy Hispanic representation. Rodriguez and Vasquez are stereotype names for military members and you'll find it in movies all the time.

I do have a general feeling that Marines take more immigrants, especially Hispanic, but I don't have anything to base it on.

It's actually a little more complex than a guarantee, but serving in the US military is a path to expedited citizenship/permanent residency including family.

White supremacist organizations like the NRA are constantly working to impose tyranny.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 13 points 11 months ago

"From my cold dead hands!"

They actually apparently want to die, not actually keep their guns.

[–] lostwonder@beehaw.org 12 points 11 months ago

What do you expect from a bunch of terrorists?

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I mean, we all knew that the NRA was on the fascists' side, but what about all those leftist gun owners that kept spamming the "under no pretext" quote after every school shooting? Surely they'll be starting their glorious revolution any minute now, right?
