The same reason ruzzians don’t.
I've said this before on Lemmy and got down voted, but this is accurate. When it comes to current willingness to fight for our rights, Americans are Russians, not the French.
Incorrect. Americans do not revolt because we are fat and not uncomfortable enough. Russians do not revolt because they are drunk and numb...because they are drunk.
So, apathy.
Isn't it always?
A mix of having too much to lose and a sense that there's nothing to gain.
The lesson of the 20th century that's beaten into the head of every American liberal is "Animal Farm". If anyone advocates for a revolt, it is only because they want to be the new evil bastards in charge. Sincere opposition to oppression isn't real. Anarchism is just chaos, not a real non-hierarchical organizing philosophy. Democracy is a farce. And any disruption of the status quo will end badly for everyone involved.
The apathy is a consequence of decades of authoritarian propaganda couched in "American/Russian Exceptionalist" language. And if you scuff the paint on Exceptionalism, what you end up with is White Nationalism, which is what's really holding back the bulk of revolutionary sentiment. "I'm (the correct kind of) white, so none of this will affect me, personally. Why stick my neck out so some Woke Atheist Black Feminazi Muslim Tankie can seize power?"
So, I'm fat & drunk = I'm a AmeriRuss?
