escalation

Disarming a gunman is an escalation now?

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The base houses strategic nuclear bombers, and the reason the bombers were in the open is due to Russian compliance with the START treaty. This isn't disarming Russia in any way that helps Ukraine, and it's a massive escalation of the proxy war between NATO and Russia.

the reason the bombers were in the open is due to Russian compliance with the START treaty.

First, Russia suspended it's participation in new START

Second, are you sure that's a requirement of the treaty?

The only relevant article I could find is the following (emphasis mine):

Article X

  1. For the purpose of ensuring verification of compliance with the provisions of this Treaty, each Party undertakes: (a) to use national technical means of verification at its disposal in a manner consistent with generally recognized principles of international law; (b) not to interfere with the national technical means of verification of the other Party operating in accordance with this Article; and (c) not to use concealment measures that impede verification, by national technical means of verification, of compliance with the provisions of this Treaty.
  2. The obligation not to use concealment measures includes the obligation not to use them at test ranges, including measures that result in the concealment of ICBMs, SLBMs, ICBM launchers, or the association between ICBMs or SLBMs and their launchers during testing. The obligation not to use concealment measures shall not apply to cover or concealment practices at ICBM bases or to the use of environmental shelters for strategic offensive arms.

Looks to me like plane hangars are allowed while the tires on planes that they actually used are illegal as they don't protect against the weather and just exist to fool bad satellite images.

Destroying planes that have been, and would otherwise have continued to be used for, launching missiles at Ukraine… that doesn’t help Ukraine?

Brb, gonna shoot at my neighbor. But I’ll put my gun back in a gun safe afterward so no one will do anything about it.

Ah yes, Russia using bombers stationed in, checks notes, Siberia to carry out strikes in Ukraine. You are a genius.

[–] Grapho@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Russia shares a border with Ukraine from which it can use medium-range systems to deliver missiles much more reliably and with fewer risks. Attacking nuclear bombers is a stupid escalation that could see the rest of us engulfed in nuclear fire, you fucking dumbass.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works -4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nuclear bombers which, once again, have been used to launch non-nuclear munitions. Reported for incivility.

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Except nuclear bombers in Siberia are not being used to launch anything into Ukraine. This is just bullshit you're spewing because you're a troll.

I’ll give you a hypothetical. Your car is set on fire. You loved that car, maintained it daily, polished it like it was your own sexual organ that lacks a clitoris. Once you get over your grief, you remember the 3 identical cars in identical condition that you keep at your other houses. Would you consider moving one of those to the house you’re using?

It might be difficult to move something heavy, like a car, from one location to another but if you really wanted to, you might find a way irl. For this hypothetical, we’ll just say that you’ve figured out how to move the car from one location to another.

The same person who is calling people abelist is being a weird misogynist, very cool

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

One has to have a brain as smooth as a bowling ball to believe that Russia shuttles their strategic nuclear bombers from Siberia and back just to bomb Ukraine. Not to mention that the point of those bombers is for them to be used in case of a nuclear war with the US. If Russia actually did what you're suggesting then they'd be exposing themselves to a first strike while their nuclear bombers were away. You are completely and utterly clueless, and frankly should be deeply embarrassed by the misogynistic word salad you wrote there. I recommend going back to reddit where you can hang out with individuals who engage at your intellectual level.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works -3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I couldn’t tell whether you were being intentionally obtuse, my actually ableist, ostensibly chan-raiding friend, but I’ll explain again. They’ve used nearby bombers. If all of the nearby nuclear-cable bombers, which had been used, were destroyed, do you believe they would cease to use their nuclear-capable bombers or dip into their stock? I can tell you what Ukraine believed their aggressor would do.

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The assumption, my dear misogynist, that Russia is running out of nuclear capable bombers is entirely unsubstantiated.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not what I said, implied, or even really asked, my Chan-poisoned friend

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So, what you're saying is that you just spewed some incoherent drivel without any actual point to it. Gotcha.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Dude, 4chan has legitimately affected your vernacular. Please, cut ties with whatever is leading you to speak this way. It physically pains me. And don’t @ me for the next few hours. I’m roleplaying my cuck fetish and I don’t need flashbacks

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

please stop projecting, it's frankly embarrassing

[–] CyberMonkey404@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But nobody is disarming the USA

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works -3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Out of left field with the US talking point.

They should try it the same way Ukraine did. I’m not sure what you’re getting at.

[–] CyberMonkey404@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

USA is the gunman. The fact you pretend not to understand what I said is telling

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works -2 points 1 week ago

Your interest in America is fine, but suggesting something unrelated to the conversation as though it were a gotcha, only to be told “do it”, and then take that as vindication is the silliest thing I’ve read this week, and I’ve read what I’ve written.

To reiterate, I understand and agree with your political message, but, like, don’t blurt it out at random, irrelevant times if you want to be taken seriously.

Can't have an .ml news story without a pro-Putin slant on it.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 week ago

They hit parked military aircraft. If they are not allowed to hit military targets during war, what are they alllowed to hit?
