Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

can-excuse-1 I can excuse genocide, but I draw the line at bad optics!

This is what they actually believe though.

[–] MF_COOM@hexbear.net 54 points 10 months ago

Macron also made his point about double standards on the war in Gaza, acknowledging there was a perception the West has given a "free pass" to Israel.

Yeah that's just a perception I wouldn't worry about it just optics is all

These things are always put in the future tense. It seems like a common tactic. "So and so warns that such and such could happen". Deaths in Gaza. Climate change. Anything that's already happening, just make it future tense.

Great way to absolve blame and say "Uh, see, I told you so!" While doing nothing to address the issue at the time (or ever).

So infuriating

American Democracy being destroyed by Fascism is always imminent but never yet occurred. It's the Van driving towards the post gif

[–] blobjim@hexbear.net 11 points 10 months ago

The climate has been on the "verge" of collapse since the 80s

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 52 points 10 months ago

Did you consider the real victim is the West's credibility??? No you tankies only think about yourselves.

[–] KnilAdlez@hexbear.net 48 points 10 months ago (1 children)

With who?? They don't care about their 'credibility' with the global south. The western states love jerking each other off.

[–] Sinisterium@hexbear.net 5 points 10 months ago

Macron has been talking about opposing the US since Trump I.

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 38 points 10 months ago

It is a good idea to flee a sinking ship

The best way Macron could provide credibility for France would be to die

[–] Comrade_Mushroom@hexbear.net 34 points 10 months ago

-Man with the saggiest and stinkiest trousers you've ever seen

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 33 points 10 months ago

Could? Like it hadn't already happened?

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 33 points 10 months ago

well an easy out on that would've been not sending your foreign legionnaires to the ukranonazis and threatening to garrison odessa eh?

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 32 points 10 months ago

The US hasn't had any credibility since Vietnam at the very least. Definitely lost any good will remaining when it lied about Iraq. Who in the year of our lord 2025 annoy domino would trust the US to not do evil shit? Do libs think North Korea and Iran are going to trust anything that comes out of our mouths?

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 31 points 10 months ago

Standing quietly by the thousands of dead civilians for years

This is a warning about what could happen, we better consider maybe doing something at some indeterminate point in the future.

[–] Speaker@hexbear.net 29 points 10 months ago

Credibility?

Lose?

Could?

It won't, Compradors and America-lovers (the only demographic that matters to the west) will still do all the things they do, they already thought those wars were good and cool anyways

[–] godlessworm@hexbear.net 11 points 10 months ago

it’s more likely than you might think.

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 11 points 10 months ago

Ahahahahahaaa

The West's credibility is already this small!" cried Macron, also stating the wider world "kept playing the world's smallest violin" when he complained.
