Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Peterson said in a statement provided to NBC. “We stand by our decision as a privately owned bookstore to determine what titles and merchandise are suitable for our shelves or easily accessible by young children."

Mr Peterson, you absolutely have that right to do what you want with your own store. However, that won't insulate you from the consequences of your actions when your employees quit rather than capitulate to your bigotry and your customers evaporate for the same reason. Even from a business point of view, you might want to look at sales numbers for the Republican views you're courting. Far fewer buy books than your previous, more open minded, clientele.

Yeah, and as a bookstore, I imagine pandering to the right doesn't really help your sales all that much in the long run.

Yeah most of my coworkers are right leaning. They sneer at me reading during my breaks. Magas don't read books. Most conservatives don't read books or keep them in their homes. These dumb fuck will find out.

A relatively minor incident in the bigger scale of things, but it really does give the impression that the US is well on its way to becoming a proto-fascist state.

Do people have to start wearing shiny Hugo Boss outfits before we stop calling it proto-fascist? Seems pretty fascistic to me

[–] IceFoxX@lemm.ee 6 points 11 months ago

Cause it is

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 21 points 11 months ago (1 children)

on its way

It's already there.

Have you seen who's leading the country? It's no longer "proto-fascist" either, it's full on fascist. With the trafficking of humans into El Salvador prisons without due process, that country is there. The US is a fascist hellscape shithole country.

My frame of reference is russia. With all due to respect, US has ways to go before they get to that level.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 17 points 11 months ago

Ah yes, the Florida panhandle. The low key redneckiest part of the US. You'd think it'd be somewhere in Arkansas or Alabama, but you'd be wrong Those rednecks congregate in the redneck riviera for some sun in the sun, making the panhandle the absolute worst.

PS: The sad part is, that area is also has the best beaches in the continental United States, but a lot of the people that go there truly suck.

Florida is the worse state

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 16 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Oklahoma enters the chat....at least you have scenery

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 11 months ago

Mississippi is the worst, though.

It's at the absolutte bottom of almost every positive statistic, at the very top of almost every negative statistic (including poorest state) and don't even get me STARTED on the white supremacist kakistocracy they have ruling the state!

In fact, it's so dire that the unofficial motto of awful neighboring state Alabama is "thank god for Mississippi" (making us not the worst)

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago

Have they looked around lately? They need to quit the whole fucking state.

[–] madjo@feddit.nl 7 points 11 months ago

it only responded to complaints about age-inappropriate content visible to children.

so they removed titles...

[–] GrassCat@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

“We couldn’t allow gay patrons inside of the bookstore anymore. Think of the children.”
