if the game is anti-cop, I'm not playing

My man you do CRIMES in the game!

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 53 points 3 days ago

The game is literally named for a crime

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 35 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I don't know how you can both follow video games at all and not know what GTA is about in 2025

[–] Xenomorph@hexbear.net 34 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Culture war tourists I'd imagine. But shit, even normies who don't touch video games know what gta is all about, the controversy it's generated alone for doing said crimes in game.

Its in the name, grand theft auto, obviously, I, the hero, play an officer of the law investigating crimes against cars

boomers who watched cable news 20 years ago have a better idea of what GTA is than these losers.

Lmao like did they just continue to fail every mission in the previous games because they would refuse to do crimes?

Just picturing someone doing nothing but driving around following traffic rules in free play mode is funny af.

i did that for a bit in gta 4 lol, i got kinda into the roleplay
then i fucked up a mission like 3 times and got bored of the 10 minute commute so i started driving like a maniac again

There are super cereal GTA streams out there with dedicated player cops, gang leaders, drama, etc. in GTA 5 to this day. A friend of mine was in one, it seems like it took way too much time to get any thing done.

[–] shawn1122@lemm.ee 13 points 3 days ago

They might be 12 years old and have never been allowed to play it before. That's my best guess.

This is really common with older folks who've never played video games and try playing GTA for the first time. They aren't used to games and think traffic laws are stricter than they actually are. I don't remember where I saw it, but there's a cute video of a granny with her grandkids trying to play GTA and feeling bad when she accidentally crashed her car into oncoming traffic.

The main villains of San Andreas were a unit of cops named after an actual real life unit of cops in the LAPD.

[–] Parzivus@hexbear.net 32 points 3 days ago

They really nailed the Florida look. Say what you will about GTA but the parody of America is always entertaining

[–] WeedReference420@hexbear.net 27 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Shoutout to when a bunch of epic tough as hell right wing culture warriors all pretended they were unable to handle playing GTA because you had to kill cops

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

the last one is a lie, there are at least 2 missions that require you to toast some pigs in cyberpunk and they're pretty early on iirc

[–] AnarchoCynicalist@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't remember ever being forced to kill a cop in cyberpunk, but the game tries its hardest to portray the cops and crime system possible. -all gang members have an active bounty and are known to the cops. Somehow. -cops can magically trace you/hunt you even if your hack is supposed to be untracable -there are solo foot patrol officers just walking around like they were not hated in night city -the protagonist is a fucking bootlicker -police is presented as the unquestionable solution to crime despite being corrups as hell lore wise

I just hate it. The cops are said to be incompetent, but shown to be magically impossibly competent. They are supposed to be understaffed, which is said to be the reason crime is so bad, but then there are thousands just walking around everywhere anyways. They are said to be corrupt as hell and cowards, but their favourite strategy is the zerg rush without any fear for their lives. The game tries so hard to bootlick, it almost wraps around to be a parody again, but one that doesn't fit the tone the game is going for.

[–] Speaker@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago

Just started an only-INT netrunner and fully 90% of my walking around time is pinging cops to grind netrunning and then melting their skulls with my brain. 10/10 "I'm not touching you" gaming experience.

[–] Gowron_Howard@lemm.ee 13 points 3 days ago

Elon is a fucking coward. He prefers to commit his crimes behind closed doors.

[–] Enjoyer_of_Games@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago

the first GTA was originally an enlightened centrist game where you plays cops and robbers but then they realized playing as a cop is lame and cut it out before release.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago

As CJ would say, "these some busta-ass marks."

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Have they never heard of GTA before lmao

[–] shawn1122@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

My guess is these are Zoomers who still had their screen time controlled by Mommy when GTA V came out.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 17 points 3 days ago
