Edit: I opened another tab in a separate Firefox container and didn't get the pop-up. I believe I read this shit being account-based when the first reports of Youtube's anti-adblock measures started making the rounds and it seems to be the case still

I would rather not visit youtube ever again than be forced to watch ads

There's something uniquely enraging about online video ads that just instantly makes me go into a frothing rage. I guess the difference is that the way you interact with your computer or smartphone is a much more active experience as opposed to passively absorbing whatever's on TV from a couch, so an ad on the former two feels like you're being actively stopped dead in in the middle of whatever you're doing to try to get you to buy something as loudly and obnoxiously as possible. When you get an adbreak on TV you just get up to get a glass of water or something or check your phone.

ublock origin still does the trick for me

They're probably playing A/B testing games

What makes me sad is that AdNauseum while built on uBlock, isn't updated as much and ended up failing making me shift back to uBlock which is at least still functional for me. I just like "clicking" all the ads and making shit more expensive for the ad agency.

Me too. I kept using it out of sheer pettiness even if ads kept popping up, but it got a bit out of hand after a while. I hope it gets better some day.

So I guess the future is youtube-dl

I'm using a smart DNS (ControlD) with adblock and I've never seen those popups everyone keeps complaining about. It also lets me get around F1TV's geo blocking.

google likes to a/b test, you (and me) are in the "no popup yet" group

never liked invidious' UI but it seems like it might be a bit less likely to be rate limited than the popular Piped instances I usually use

honestly yt-dlp and piped and shit means I almost never have to use youtube's actual UI. I used to pay for premium but the cost on that has gone up and I'm no longer interested in the bundled music service either

Had to switch to Firefox plus ad blocker after I started getting targeted ads for the town I live in. Creepy shit.

People kept telling saying ubo+ff was already up to date, but it hasn't worked for me either.

I updated my filters and the pop-up hasn't come back, but I fully expect it to rear its head later.

Using Ublock + firefox, I get the pop-up every few videos, but I can just exit out the pop-up and continue with it.

I've gotten this popup, I just hit the x to close it and then my adblocker/sponsor block works as normal

[-] 187_Invitation@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

You'll eventually get a three strikes popup or it'll block you from playing video. Then you have to update uBlock regularly :(

[-] Weedian@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

yeah it started making me wait like 10 seconds to close the popup, I grabbed a firefox addon that redirects youtube links to invidious

I haven't been having issues with uBlock but I'm also using Nano Defender and I've manually blocked element on YouTube before so that might factor.
