This is the first time I’ve ever heard something positive about RPAN. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.
I loved it :)
I didnt care for all the musicians and would instead watch regular people doing stuff or showing off parts of their lives, and get to occasionally ask them about their interests for example.
A chat with a tailor at work, someone showing off their farm, two random irish dudes in their living room, etc.
As long as I can properly disable it if it ever shows up on Lemmy, then I’m all for it. Reddit made it show up in my feed no matter how many times I clicked “hide”.
Good luck finding a solution!
Idk if it is what you're looking for, but there is Owncast. It's a federated alternative to Twitch, including support for the Fediverse.
I like their directory page. Presumably that shows current live streams from different instances. Having one place to go to see all streams seems key, casual viewers will not visit lots of different instances looking for streams.
Very nice, is there a client that integrates a chat room like Twitch?
You could always just live stream using Twitch or something and post a link here? Maybe create a c/RPAN for a similar effect.
Probably needs a new name, or just 'PublicAccessNetwork'
PAF: Public Access Fedwork
I feel like FBS would work better
"Fediverse Broadcast Service"
Nah, you'd want 'Federated' to be the first word, so that it stands out, so maybe 'Federated Access to the Public'
Fat has negative connotations though, so ideally you'd want to hide the 't'. How about FAP? That's got no negative connotations, right?
“Hey fap chat thanks for joining this fap. We’re doing a fappathon where I fap as long as you donate”
Peertube has live streaming, not sure if there is a community like RPAN though.
Omg yessss, this would be amazing to bring back!
It might be pretty expensive to host something like that. Video encoding can get really expensive. I enjoyed RPAN's brief stay though.

- Not ad nauseam inducing: please make sure it is a question that would be new to most members
- An actual topic of discussion
