Looking for something under or around $200 I can fuck around with without cluttering my room up with pedals but I want a good selection of effects but I also don't want the thing to be tied to an app. Id rather adjust a knob and hear a sound than have to dial it in on the demon box (smartphone)

I've heard the katana mini is good. When I was looking for an amp I saw a lot of recommendations saying that the best amp under $200 is a used katana 50 mk2 but I couldn't find one that cheap. I was ultimately gifted a katana 50 mk3 by a relative and like it, though it's more expensive.

Another option is using a cheap audio interface like the scarlet solo and using a DAW or something like guitarix on a computer. I did that before I got my amp and it was mostly fine in linux, but I had issues with unplayable delay in windows that I never managed to resolve.

That last part is a headache I don't want to contemplate tech (witchcraft) does not like me

Yeah trying to deal with audio stuff is an intractable nightmare on windows and a normal nightmare on linux. Both are actively hostile and refuse to work in a sensible way, and on windows one relies on proprietary garbage programs that don't even work while on linux it's poorly documented and inscrutable command line programs that sometimes work and sometimes do not even given the same commands.

Alright knobs it is

I'm mad just thinking about what you're describing

I’ve got a big Boss Katana bass amp that’s served me well over the years. I haven’t used the app because I haven’t bought the Bluetooth adapter for it, so idk, but the onboard effects are good (and I’ve hooked it up to my computer to mess with the effects on there).

I am willing to be tempted by the demon box if there's some amp I don't know about that rules and has a good app (aka devil [not the rock and roll cool kind] communion ritual)
