FFS, stop trying to make the Metaverse happen. Nobody wants it.

[–] taladar@sh.itjust.works 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Those who want it have been using it for 20 years already with Second Life. Oddly enough, none of these new metaverse makers take any lessons learned from that but I guess then they would have to admit that VR is crap that nobody needs for immersion.

Lol I remember Napster for downloading music damn I'm old.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 11 points 1 year ago

Holy hell, Napster is a (legal) subscription music streaming service! Crazy times we live in.

Napster... Sorry, who??

They're still around??

🤷‍♂️

[–] mostlikelyaperson@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

They aren’t really, some crypto bros just bought the name and stuck it to this pile of horseshit, presumably in the hopes of making some money off of idiots.

It's impressive and somewhat concerning what people will pay for a name. Historic as it is Napster died long long ago

I’ll go fire up limewire now. Be right back.

Only for the Metaverse? Ha! Guess I won't be using Napster.

[–] Exec@pawb.social 10 points 1 year ago

Yeah, next year they'll go after NFTs then a year after that they'll all in for AI.

[–] fork_hero@lemm.ee 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Mm. Nah. I'm just confused who this is supposed to be for: people who used Napster for free music or people who say "what's a Napster?"

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

TIL Napster still exist. I thought it got shut down in the early 2000's?

[–] mostlikelyaperson@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

It did, but the branding got sold a few times and is now in the hands of some crypto company.

Obligatory, FUCK YOU Lars Ulrich!

[–] Alphane_Moon@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

I doubt anyone will use this except for crypto bagholders who have no interest in music (or anything really) and are just looking to dumb their bags the next mark.
