As with the buds, you’ll need a phone running Android 13 or later, and dynamic head tracking only works with compatible video apps.

Just did loads of research into these and ended up buying the XM4s because every honest review said that all the new features on the 5s were just gimmicks that added nothing but complications

[-] Xanvial@lemmy.one 4 points 11 months ago

Same, bought xm4 two weeks ago. Mostly because xm5 case is kinda big and the features itself doesn't have much difference

They're absolutely fantastic headphones, but fuckin hell, I wish I could disable the play/pause double tap, and switch it to the custom button.

The amount of times when you have the headphones round your neck, it brushes your chin and restarts playback 😡 Not so bad with music, fuckin infuriating with audiobooks

[-] Xanvial@lemmy.one 3 points 11 months ago

Hmm, I think you can fully disable it via the android apps

[-] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah you can disable it, but you can't change it to the custom button. I don't want to pull out my phone to pause every time

[-] moitoi@feddit.de 1 points 11 months ago

XM4 are in some market a lot cheaper.

[-] Tired8281@lemmy.ca 8 points 11 months ago

So, like, this only works when you watch videos on your phone? Who wants immersive audio on a six inch screen?

[-] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.de 7 points 11 months ago

All I want is to be able to MANUALLY switch betweeny conncected multipoint inputs. It's infuriating that this isn't possible.

[-] Bolleeer@programming.dev 1 points 11 months ago

Isn't that possible in the app? I've changed it manually multiple times with the wf-1000xm4s

[-] Duke_Nukem_1990@feddit.de -1 points 11 months ago

Let's say I have two connectione, one to my TV and one to my phone. There is afaik no way to manually tell the app/the headphones which input to use without disconnecting from one of the sources.

I have the xm4 ear buds, I can goto my Bluetooth device list and select it from any device. It'll switch to the device without any hassle.

It also supports two device but that's not a good experience.

My xm3 headphones have a single connection issue, but I mostly avoid it using my phone NFC. It prioritizes the NFC contact over any other Bluetooth device. And disconnecting is also just a tap away, easier than going into menus.

Better still, Sony is no longer making WH-1000XM5 owners choose between multipoint and LDAC

No WH-1000XM4? :(

[-] shockwave@kbin.social 4 points 11 months ago

But still no way to mute the microphone from the headset!

Sony is a shit company with long track record of treating their customers like garbage.

[-] ijeff 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Would you mind elaborating? Are we talking in the headphones space or more generally?

[-] gressen@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

More generally. Their terrible reaction to the psn hack, following hacks, bad security, worse PR, PI leaks, denial and retaliatory behavior were a discussing thing to follow and a warning to stay away from the whole corp. They show no sign of care about their clients and no morality.

[-] ijeff 2 points 11 months ago

Ah! Yeah they've got some baggage. Headphones and mirrorless cameras are probably the only product categories I'd consider from them these days.

[-] And009@reddthat.com 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Unfortunately they're the only consumer brand that balances good audio and tech

Customer support can be much better, their live chat is essentially a hoax
