News and information from Europe πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί

(Current banner: La Mancha, Spain. Feel free to post submissions for banner images.)

Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in !yurop@lemm.ee. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)

(This list may get expanded when necessary.)

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the mods: @federalreverse@feddit.org, @poVoq@slrpnk.net, or @anzo@programming.dev.

We can! Lots of great products from America.

It's only one of 30 countries in America that we need to avoid, the USA

That's been a major issue for Trump regarding the trade war. He thought he could get away with other countries not pacing retaliatory tarrifs, but that's what they are going to do.

I got called out as a russian troll in the past for saying that european countries should tell USA government and their military to fuck off.

You all drunk on propaganda, the same politicians in charge now shouting for the rearming of europe are the ones who for decades made every sort of deal with USA government and bought billions of weapons from them.

No, you get called out as a Russian troll for defending the invasion of a sovereign country.

[–] index@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I've never defended the invasion of a country by another. You coming out with such bullshit highlight that you are drunk on propaganda.

If someone else is passing through here and wants to look through index’s history, keep in mind that the truly heinous stuff is all gone because it was removed by moderators.

[–] index@sh.itjust.works -2 points 2 hours ago

We are on lemmy and everyone can see the removed posts on the modlog in they want. Crashing a thread to attack another user with bullshit doesn't make you look too good.

Until almost 2 months ago, the USA wasn't the bootlicker of Putler that it is today. It was easier for Europe to buy stuff from the greatest power out there than to spend the money to develop the things in-house. American companies had both the technology and the capacity to produce whatever we needed, and depending on them did not pose any danger.

This is trump second term go check all the military deals made before

[–] petrescatraian@libranet.de 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

@index yeah. But since his 1st term

  • He encouraged a coup where masses of people stormed the Capitol building based on fake allegations of vote rigging;
  • He was convicted as a felon, plus had classified documents scattered all across his house;
  • He immediately started his 2nd term by dismantling the US democracy, while Musk and other members of his apparatus started doing the same with the democracy of their allies (e.g. see Germany);
  • He started bullying the country the US was supposed to defend against Russia;
  • His entourage started talking about a US pullout from NATO and the UN;
  • ~~He stopped any military drills in Europe under NATO~~ They plan to stop any military drills in Europe moving forward, and most importantly...
  • He's eyeing for a third term in the White House for no fucking reason. That means there's at least 8 years on his disposal to fuck Europe big time compared to the previous 4-year term.

He stopped any military drills in Europe under NATO, and most importantly…

Nothing stopped they actually increased the drills check for yourself

Day 1 of his 3rd term, he would get black bagged by an agency, amid several other disappearances and tragic accidents that day.
