People will be going to jail…

Starting with trump, right? Right?

[–] gamer@lemm.ee 3 points 52 minutes ago (1 children)

He has presidential immunity because raping those children 20 years ago was all part of a plan to build diplomatic relations with Putin.

[–] zildjiandrummer1@lemmy.world 2 points 46 minutes ago

He's always been playing 4d chess, that stable genius

[–] pappabosley@lemm.ee 14 points 15 hours ago

Surely this is just the preparation for false allegations against their opponents? Why put your crony as the FBI director if you're not going to get him to lie and cheat for you. Part one, re-release what's already out there, to show you're exposing the "truth", this gives legitimacy to whatever shit you come out with next.

[–] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world 15 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

people will be going to jail for what they have done

Except Trump.

It would be less terrifying if that were true. Rich people being corrupt and getting away with crimes is nothing new in America.

The scary thing is that the ones that will get away with it are the ones who ally themselves with Trump. This is going to be used as another tool to attack our democracy.

How do MAGA folks ignore Trump's DEEEEEEEP ties to Epstein so completely???

[–] gamer@lemm.ee 2 points 47 minutes ago

It's called trickle-down pedophilia

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 3 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Conservatives are pretty perverted people, they think it's ok actually people are getting SA, and should be grateful someone powerful noticed the victims. I once followed some as tubers that turned right wingers over the pandemic, and guess what one of them did, bragged about knowing a vaguely pedophile in a school setting. First and foremost they love strongmen and will ignore any moral failings.

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 99 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They don't ignore it, they don't care.

They think elites should be able to do what they want— reactionary ideology was founded as a monarchical counterrevolutionary movement, and that's the ideal they're working backwards to achieve.

Note that this obviously doesn't apply to elites who aren't aligned with their movement.

They use rhetoric to divide the opposition and to rally their base; they don't actually care about coherence.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 1 hour ago

In the early days of the conservative or the Donald subreddit I glanced in there, and their reasoning is elites and corporations should have no taxes period, and believe jobs will trickle down to people, I chuckled and closed the sub.

They think elites should be able to do what they want

Recently, one of my moms was ranting about how corrupt Biden was for pardoning his son (she didn't even know what he was charged for - I got her to look it up and then her response was basically "well, he deserved it anyways because of corruption). Later the same day, we were talking about how Musk was abusing his position to fire people investigating his companies and my moms responses were "that's smart".

There's so much "as long as my team does it, it's good and no matter what the other team does, it's bad"

[–] NotLemming@lemm.ee 10 points 22 hours ago

Yep. It works exactly like cheating in sport. I know football fans who will want the harshest penalties for cheating in the opposite team, while just laughing and shrugging if someone in their team does the same thing or even worse. .

[–] Lemjukes@lemm.ee 14 points 23 hours ago (1 children)
[–] WalrusDragonOnABike@reddthat.com 15 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

In this case, I kind suspect its an issue of saving face. They don't want to admit that the team they supported are doing bad things, because it would admit being wrong. But until it starts to serious hurt them directly, they won't care. Of course the current administration is actively trying to harm them, but I can't imagine them admitting it until well after it happens...

[–] SlopppyEngineer@lemmy.world 10 points 22 hours ago

For conservatives, their team is morally good so can do no bad. The other team is morally bad so can do no good. And the law is there to punish the bad people. The end result is selective enforcement of rules and laws against certain minorities.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

They literally don’t think too hard about it. Just feed them the next conspiracy line and they’ll latch on, no matter how hard it goes against the last one. “He was there because he was trying to stop it” was the approximate excuse I heard a few years ago.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Right wingers are experts at mental gymnastics . First they have to believe their own lies, and in order to be convinced that Republicans lied are believable

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 5 points 20 hours ago

They just grab the nearest pussy, of-age or non, and don’t think about it.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 30 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

Yeah because that's how prosecutions start...by dumping troves of documents into the public domain so that we can do a citizen's arrest!

These breathing MAGA bots moonlight as fucking clowns.

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 51 points 1 day ago

Trump all over this. MAGA won't care

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 11 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Unredacted flight logs or it isn't released.

Any other specific documents we need?

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 9 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Epstein’s client list is what will legally incriminate his ‘customers.’ Flight logs are good evidence, but not enough for a case alone.

[–] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

The client list is only a starting point for investigating.

It would take getting ahold of Epstein's blackmail on people to actually get convictions.

Even if someone was in his client list and had multiple trips to his island, that still isn't enough proof. You could easily assume the individual went to the island for illegal activity because illegal activity was known to go on there, but that does not mean that they did anything illegal.

Innocent until proven guilty, the blackmail is the evidence of guilt. It is likely that Maxwell has access to the blackmail, but that much dirt is very valuable as a leverage tool that nobody would want to give up. She probably won't give up the blackmail to avoid being Epstein'd.

We will never get the outcome we want because the blackmail is missing.

The "DECLASSIFIED" watermark on the cover is just the cherry in top.

[–] mkwt@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Real declassified documents will have a "secret" or "top secret" mark on the cover and on every page that is struck out, redacted, or otherwise obliterated.

[–] JoYo@lemmy.ml 6 points 20 hours ago

it depends, recent documents will have a date of classification and expiration. it also depends on which agency did the classification because ODNI is toothless.

ive never seen a FOIA request answered with crossed out portion marks.

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

Probably spoon-fed to them by the blyats.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Is there anything new in this release that we didn't know years ago from the last one?

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Some people said they are releasing it now because they are being distracted by the zelenksy interview, like a typical Republican move so the voters will forget this in 4 years, and they can claim it is old news. Notice msm almost never talks about Epstein files at all? It's because it also exposes alot of potential abusers which are probably a lot ceos in msms and politcians

[–] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 10 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

He's already said that he will not release this information. I'm not sure why this is surprising anyone. They're releasing stuff that was already out there. None of this is new and there won't be anything new at least until the next administration if ever.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago

Oh I'm not surprised at all, I just wanted to call it out.

[–] A_Very_Big_Fan@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

Mark my words, there will be absolutely nothing that implicates anyone in power. At least not for the next four years.

[–] Gerudo@lemm.ee 10 points 1 day ago

So far, not a single thing.

[–] JoYo@lemmy.ml 2 points 20 hours ago

is that not the same person? i can hear the over exaggerated drawl from here.
