RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Mondays is the busiest day of the week, so whenever my off-day falls on Monday I feel some type of way. I don't know if anyone has this experience.

It's one of the three days I work from home per week. Having gone from a shift work job where I had no idea the hours I'd be working (on a 24 hour schedule, so often over-nights) without knowing what days I would be working until about a week ahead, to only needing to go into an office 2 times per week and knowing for certain I have every weekend off has been really nice.

I'm glad you have a good job which gives you plenty of time, I for once don't need much time for myself. Working extra hours keeps my mind occupied and helps me not to overthink some certain things, it's the reason why I have not taken a vacation for a long time now.

My shop is closed Sunday and Monday, but I have to do the majority of my ordering and paperwork for the week on Monday. So I am off but not. I do most of it in my living room while watching TV or listening to music.

I hate when holidays close things on Mondays because Tuesdays are busy for me with Tuesday stuff and then I have to move Monday stuff to Tuesdays.

I agree with you, I'm not into retail and it's been such a long time since I worked in retail, but I did sales when I was in college. In my line of work, you get to work every each maybe 7 days on for a week and 7 days off sometimes.

[–] ALiteralCabbage@feddit.uk 5 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I used to work Sun-Thurs at a shop.

Bank holidays in the UK are always on Monday.

Guess who didn't get TOIL.

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 1 points 18 minutes ago

I normally work 7 days on and some days off, which mean I work from Monday to Sunday and get the following week off.

[–] Wytch@lemmy.zip 1 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Monday is one of my days off. It's a designated self-care day. How that manifests varies. Regular therapy at a minimum.

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 1 points 13 hours ago

Today is my day off, but I've staying in my cabin watching movies and being scrolling on X.

[–] DosDude@retrolemmy.com 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Monday is always my day off, doing house work and playing with my kid. I started doing 4 day work weeks a few years ago, and I wouldn't want a 5 day work week back. This is great.

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I see you've a good working hours and I mean working 4 days within a week is something nice, most people would love this. Can I ask the field you work in?

[–] DosDude@retrolemmy.com 1 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Small electronics. Circuit board population.

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

You've a good job, I can't imagine the stress obviously but mine is stressful plus working a graveyard shift.

[–] DosDude@retrolemmy.com 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Stressful jobs aren't meant to last. Make sure to listen to your body, or your body will stop the job for you.

My job is not really stressful, apart from some rush moments. I like my job, and that also helps a lot.

I work in the oil industry, I'm into engineering.

[–] burgersc12@mander.xyz 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Monday is one of our slowest days, but I usually work it.

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Well, Mondays are slow because some people can't shrug off the fun during the weekend easily, but Mondays are really important.

[–] burgersc12@mander.xyz 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe for you, my work is the opposite of important. Food service at a casino. Go home you lazy bums!!

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 0 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I never implied your job wasn't important.

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 0 points 13 hours ago

Alright, you got me confused for a while.

[–] Alice@beehaw.org 2 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

If you don't mind me asking, what industry are you in? I'm in retail, and Monday one of the slower days. Sunday is probably our busiest because people are out and about anyway for church, so they grab groceries on the way home.

I'm always just curious. I've noticed a lot of people take for granted that other jobs work on the same timeframe as theirs, so I try not to do that.

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 1 points 14 hours ago

I mostly work 7 days straight and some days off

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 1 points 14 hours ago

I work in oil production, I'm actually an engineer.

[–] Opinionhaver@feddit.uk 2 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Used to be saturday and sunday but now as self-employed my day off besides the weeked is when ever I feel like so or don't have any work orders.

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 1 points 14 hours ago

I understand you have a flexible schedule, I think I might do something different which will help me get a lot of time and a favorable working hours. When my current contract ends.

[–] lvxferre@mander.xyz 3 points 18 hours ago

Same here. This "I feel like so" usually coincides with Friday for me.

[–] bionicjoey@lemmy.ca 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

The thing is, if I take a day off, the work doesn't stop. So Tuesday will just be catching up on all the stuff missed on Monday. The only exception is national holidays where literally nobody is working. Honestly I feel it discouraging me from ever taking vacation.

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 1 points 13 hours ago

You're me, I get so choked up with work sometimes especially when I'm working a graveyard shift like this past week. I haven't taken a vacation in a while, but I'm planning on taking a vacation this summer, at to hike travel back to Europe.

[–] Lazycog@sopuli.xyz 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I know what you mean, I always feel really good when on a normal day where I'd be busy at work I'm off work for once. Especially in the span of normal working hours.

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I'm in the middle of the sea over a 100 mile onshore, there's little fun out here plus I'm really into outdoor stuffs like hiking and skiing.

[–] Lazycog@sopuli.xyz 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Ahh I know what you mean. Based on your comments and username I can somewhat relate!

Used to be a traveling automation engineer and I've spent a lot of time at the sea as well. But I quit that job after 3 years because I felt like I hadn't enjoyed my free time much in those 3 years (there isn't much to do on big ships either). I got a job with normal working hours and am much happier.

But of course not everyone suffers from that kind of a job - some other people loved that job so I can understand if you like yours as well. Hope you take care of yourself though!

[–] Ingenieurin@lemm.ee 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I love my job, I have had this job for more than a decade working on and off the sea. I used to work in a lot more harsher environment Nice to hear from you

[–] Lazycog@sopuli.xyz 1 points 57 minutes ago (1 children)

Oh wow, that's a long career in difficult environments! Well as long as you like it that's the most important thing!
