Agreed. Just a higher hardware price. But that higher price comes with better hardware, making it (hopefully) at least a little more future proof.

Cheaper/better value than anything else on the market

I just want to make this a point. As the hardware is not only cheaper, the games are too. Especially because of the sales, and the option to use other storefronts (through heroic) like epic to get free games every week or two.

No problem! It practically runs itself, thankfully. Just your occasional update and/or crash.

Hello!

There was some downtime today, so I took the chance to update the retrolemmy server to 0.19.13.

If you have trouble logging in, clear your cookies. If it doesn’t show up, force a refresh (with ctrl+F5 on PC)

The update went on without many problems, and only took a few minutes.

If you have any problems or questions, send me a message or reply to this thread.

My personal favorite new addition is the search in the sidebar for communities.

Anyone with a MAGA hat looks like a cunt.

I put more. But the ones I use less are on the bottom. So it's there for quick use, but I don't have it there all the time.

I've been using smart launcher for years it's automatic categorization is amazing. Though, wanting change, I recently started using Niagara, and like the minimalist approach too.

100 cm is almost longer than 1 meter. Wtf is this title?

You missed the opportunity to call it PieVeg

Some would consider wine tinkering. But this game is worth playing either way!

Could it be a steam deck with only streaming capabilities? Like a handheld steam link? I mostly use my steam deck this way, so for people that would hypothetically be using it this way, it could be a cheaper option.

Ah. The fuck key. That's the one that most had it's rounds imo. Good memories. Even though I had a legit windows for free back then thanks to my student account.

I used to work with it a long time ago :D

This community and it's creator has been abandoned, and the creator hasn't been active for over 2 years.

So now we're looking for someone to pass the torch to. You don't have to be registered to retrolemmy to apply.

Just reply here if you are interested, and a reason why and we can transfer the community to you.

This message seems to pop up constantly for me. Other apps and web still work even when this message persists in summit.

My first (real) pixel art. I wanted to start with the limitation of monochrome to see if I could make something semi recognizable.

Another year has passed, and it's been a relatively quiet year for RetroLemmy. Since the last anniversary we had a few lemmy updates, we added a working email functionality (which helps for our response time for new registrations), not much downtime (with the exception of the huge downtime last April) and we added an "in case of emergency" communication line through Mastodon (@DosDude@mastodon.social). We also had the biggest influx of users this year, with the 2nd Reddit exodus, and have almost sextupled in users!

Admin-wise, it's not a lot of work (I'm sure some of you were wondering about that). We don't intend to interfere often, and we haven't done it much in the past. Sometimes we ban the random spam account, and the occasional rowdy person. But nothing too bad. For actual non-spam accounts we don't intend to perma ban, unless they keep breaking the few rules we have.

Now for my personal thanks:

I want to thank everyone for being here, making accounts and/or communities. We had a few new active communities this year, and it puts a smile on my face every time I see a new post in the local tab.

We also have some very active users that joined this year, and seeing local users in the wild is always fun. But all the lurkers are also very much appreciated, and you don't have to feel compelled to suddenly post and/or comment ;).

To another year of awesome retro fun!

Cheers.

In case of emergency or downtime, I will try to give updates through mastodon. You can follow me @DosDude@mastodon.social

You can also message me there if you notice the site is down and I haven't posted an update yet.

The recent downtime has put it to my attention that users might want to get updates if the site is down. I completely understand, and agree. I don't intend to use this account much, so don't expect the usual microblog nonsense from this account.

Thanks!
