Can we please have a pandemic that wipes out the rich?

[–] MTK@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

Fuck them vegans am i right?

[–] meowmeowbeanz@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago

Oh, fantastic. The pandemic-industrial complex is back on the menu. We’ve spent decades industrializing agriculture into viral petri dishes, then act shocked when nature mutates around our hubris. Cows are just the latest domino—watch the blame shift to “wet markets” or migratory birds while factory farms keep hosing antibiotics into troughs.

But sure, let’s hyperventilate about proximity to doom. Never mind that zoonotic spillover’s been a ticking clock since we decided monoculture and profit margins trump ecosystem logic. The real virus here? Capitalism with a side of amnesia.

This ain’t boring. It’s terrifying.

[–] jimmy90@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

in a country that could start acting against this virus right now with RNA vaccine research has probably closed down all those facilities

Mark my words: there will be food shortages and food riots in America by April.

[–] LordKitsuna@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I'll bookmark this comment, not because I don't think it will happen but because I think April is a little too soon I'm giving it more like July August

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 1 points 2 hours ago

Agreed at this point it’s honestly day to day with how things are changing for the worse. Be careful out there.

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 7 points 2 days ago

True! Meats back on the menu fam!

[–] Ferrous@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago

Agreed. Start stocking cans and shotgun shells.

[–] jaemo@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

Just in time for the hero to save the day with the ol' UV lung-bleach-brush combo move and horse dewormer aperitif.

[–] El_guapazo@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

On Trump's mind, as long as no one reports it then it doesn't really exist. Remember when he said that we need to do testing for COVID to make the numbers go down? Same thing.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Everyone I know who was anti-vax first started with the position that covid was fake. They all look at avian flu as just yet another "attack for pure inconvenience" without any giant profit motive.

[–] surph_ninja@lemmy.world 57 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This is being buried by both liberal and conservative media. It’s fucking wild how bad this is without anyone knowing.

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 35 points 2 days ago (2 children)

To be fair, what even is the fucking point of reporting it anymore? We saw what ended up happening with covid, where even otherwise right-minded people started having tantrums about masks and vaccines. The vast majority of people are not going to take precautions with a new pandemic, I half expect the right wingers to start deliberately sneezing in each others faces and asking if we're triggered by it. We're screwed if another pandemic happens, and reporting on it won't even remotely change that, as a species overall we just be too stupid to survive

[–] obinice@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Yes, when I visited the USA during COVID people actively got into my face and coughed at my face. Intentionally, to be clear.

This was out in public in places like supermarkets.

Absolutely abhorrent people. I'm glad I'm back in Europe for the next pandemic, much safer.

[–] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago

Literally never had this happen and I live in a densely populated city in Texas.

Vast majority of people masked without issue

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The US is huge, and that kind of attitude will (for the most part) only be present in certain areas of the country. It's best that those places are avoided.

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I can't speak for Europe proper (relatively sane Europe), here in the UK I fully expect most of that same kind of behaviour. Probably not to the same extent as the US but it'll be bad

[–] davepleasebehave@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

people speak English and thus the propaganda naturally leaks across the pond I'm afraid.

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yep, although I take some slight comfort that the whole "deep state" thing doesn't seem to have found much of a foothold here (yet?)

[–] VoteNixon2016@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, yeah, the reptilians in Buckingham Palace would never let the Deep State get any real power

Good old fashioned British conspiracy theories, none of this foreign muck - luv me reptilian royal family, 'ate the deep state, simple as

[–] Surp@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

You know I'm all about making sure my country's lies are out in the open but man everyone everywhere I live in USA was masked up minus the couple of idiots that exist in every country. Y'all I'm mad at this shit that's going on too but this statement is a false blanket statement.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

I think it varied wildly by location.

[–] Rolder@reddthat.com 5 points 2 days ago

I would at least like to know if it’s a problem so I can take appropriate personal precautions. Sure I don’t need a running death count every day like we had during Covid but just like “this thing is out there, here’s what you can do”

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Ah yes, the mythical left leaning mainstream media. Having said that this story already broke on Fortune, NY times, Fox, CNN, Washington Post, CBS, and NPR to name a few.

You could be right though, they may stop talking about it because apparently the Department of Education is being demolished on Monday. Don't forget about the Magabowl!

[–] Draegur@lemm.ee 43 points 2 days ago (3 children)

... fuck me dead it's infecting mammals now

and the current administration has shuttered the CDC and the NIH, and has withdrawn us from the WHO.

[–] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 37 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's been in cows since last March. That's why all the ruckus about "muh rights to drink raw milk!" They were told not to (by the libs) because of bird flu, so... here we are.

https://www.cdc.gov/bird-flu/situation-summary/mammals.html#%3A%7E%3Atext=A+multistate+outbreak+of+HPAI+A%28H5N1%29+bird%2Cvirus+detections+in+more+than+200+mammals.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Can we start telling them that they can't shot themselves in the fucking face? Will that work?

[–] Draegur@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

wow if we could just 'liberal-jacket' an array of wildly self-destructive behaviors maybe we can leverage the trash into taking itself to the curb

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

withdrawn us from the WHO.

This is happening specifically in US because of its intensive dairy/poultry practices. It is a CDC matter. There happens to exist a chicken vaccine, but "concerns over exports of broiler chickens complying with foreign rules" stops its use. No idea if it makes the chickens unsafe to eat or if it's just never been tested.

[–] cheers_queers@lemm.ee 10 points 2 days ago

it has been for awhile. cats have been dying from it too

[–] UncleGrandPa@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

another pandemic with trump in charge?.......Oh fuck.

[–] BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 19 hours ago

Has he closed the CDC yet? Is that for next week?

[–] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

So this will just fix itself.

I'm almost done transitioning my family to drink oat mil..juice instead.

[–] logi@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Don't worry, it'll be gone by easter.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 6 points 2 days ago

I'm not worried about a new pandemic. Trumpy Dumpy, Muskie, and Mr. Brain Worms will get us though it; plus or minus a few million dead people.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Don't worry, Americans. JFK will protect you, won't he?

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yes, he will. by advising people to drink raw milk...

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

That'll go down well, I'm sure of it.

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Bird flu in cows?

Cows aren't birds, are these scientists stupid?

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago

I think your joke's not getting through to people :D
