Anybody make a shoot the evil CEO game yet? I would also accept that.

In Cyberpunk 2077 the major antagonists are the corporations, although the game is not as punk as the name would suggest as you spend spend about the same amount of time working for them, or even for the police or government.

Do I seem to recall one of the creators of Wolfenstein once went to an interview and asked something to the effect of "What happened to America? Since when killing Nazis became 'problematic'?". Several years ago, maybe over a decade. The US was given a warning and they didn't listen.

[–] vonxylofon@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Very true, but 2009 Wolfenstein isn't underrated. It's exactly correctly-rated.

Once upon a time, before the Nazi killing was reserved for online lobbies, Call of Duty had games take place in World War 2.

They come out swinging, huh

Nice

You can tell how fucked things are when this post might upset some “normal” people

25 Nazis seething so far

[–] Freefall@lemmy.world 15 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

All media should swing anti-nazi. More movies about killing Nazis, more games about it, etc.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

unfortunately those take too long to produce. they will probably be long banned by the time they finish.

[–] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 11 points 5 hours ago

And specifically to make sure the reality of Nazis are shown. Like in the literature you find in the newer Wolfenstein games, the stuff is shines a light on how stupid the Nazi 'scientific' mentality really was.

I wouldn't mind a couple of blazkowiczes right now

There is a conversion of Wolfenstein 3D for the ZDOOM. Best way to play the game if you want mouselook and other nice things.

Took me a little while to figure out where to put the .ipk3 file (easiest is ~/.config/gzdoom) but otherwise easy enough to get going using the flatpak version of GZDoom. Installing the regular gamefiles + spear of destiny (from my GOG version) was also pretty easy, but I wonder where one can get Return to Danger and Ultimate Challenge 🤔

Either way, good shout, plays excellently, although seems like hitting enemies is harder in this version than the original, at least when they're far away.

An unmentioned kinda out-of-the-box thing is Garry's mod (gmod). Pretty sure there are downloadable models and/or skins for nazis, and you have a ton of tools for fucking them up in the most spectacular ways possible. There are mods for gibbing, better blood and bulletholes and stuff like that. Make Rube Goldberg machines ending in splattered nazis, strap them to rockets, build mediaeval torture devices etc. The fucking up nazi possibilities are endless!

The only good Nazi is a dead Nazi

[–] BmeBenji@lemm.ee 21 points 20 hours ago

There’s a lot of things you can do with a hatchet… and a Nazi -BJ Blaskowitz

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 40 points 23 hours ago

There is PvP in Path of Exile 2 and at least one known Nazi player. Go ahead and kill him when his Boosting Ground worker is off the clock.

Hahaha, love this!

The Sniper Elite games are a gift to this world because they understand that the only thing more satisfying than shooting a Nazi in the balls is watching the bullet tear through their tiny tesitcles in glorious slow motion x-ray vision.

Too dam right.

[–] Majorllama@lemmy.world 41 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

They even gave Hitler one testicle. It may or may not be accurate depending on what you read, but it's still hilarious to shoot Hitler in the nuts and when the X-ray kicks in he's only got one nut to begin with.

[–] EisFrei@lemmy.world 23 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

You even get an achievement for it!

Saboteur deserves much more love.

[–] GoodEye8@lemm.ee 13 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Saboteur is one of those games I'm afraid to replay because I have such vivid memories of it being really fun and I don't want to lose that.

I already somewhat ruined Morrowind with modern hardware doing distant rendering. Back in the day Morrowind had perpetual fog and you couldn't see far, so all the places felt so far apart. It felt like a journey going from Vivec city to Ebonhart. But modern hardware has no problem with distant rendering and now I can see that I could spit from Vivec City to Ebonhart. It's no longer a journey, it's just an annoyance because "it's right there". The magic of traversal is lessened because things no longer feel like they're far away.

And that's what I'm afraid of, that some illusion of Saboteur gets shattered and with it the game will also feel lesser than it was.

In a somewhat similar vein, the remakes of both Halo: Combat Evolved and Bioshock modernized the lighting and in so doing completely destroyed the atmosphere.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I just played it for the first time 4 months ago and it still holds up incredibly well. The art direction definitely helps cut down on the expanded rendering capabilities of modern PCs. While you'll still have some reduced resolutions of distant landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, you'll barely notice it as the distance is often covered by buildings, trees, hills, Nazi fortifications, and so on.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 13 hours ago

There is a high resolution patch as well.

[–] TwoBeeSan@lemmy.world 7 points 19 hours ago

That was such a fun game. Little asexual me didn't care about the nudity, but the black and white aspect before liberating an area into color was such a cool Gimmick.

Been watching Band of Brothers (then of course the sequel, The Pacific) and gameplay from The Darkness for this very “no particular reason”. The Darkness feels more cathartic.
