That's what you get for paying instead of pirating.

[–] ekky@sopuli.xyz 5 points 2 weeks ago

Paying for the unique opportunity to see the newest, moistest, and most intrusive ads*.

*Also comes with a limited selection of movies and series.

[–] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 2 weeks ago

Just checked; this doesn’t appear on the latest version of Jellyfin with pirated media.

[–] Anarch157a@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Drink Verification Can to proceed,

And I thought I couldn't feel better about Jellyfin.

[–] FPSXpert@discuss.online 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

"Please stand and yell "Mcdonalds" to end commercial"

[–] aiden@lemm.ee 3 points 2 weeks ago

Isn't this patent infringement? Sony patented that, right? Hulu should be allowed to use that.

[–] NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I'd yell "Whopper beats a Big Mac!"

[–] jeena@piefed.jeena.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

Oh, wow, at least in Black Mirror they only made sure your eyes were open, you didn't need to pay attention.

[–] lnxtx@feddit.nl 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wrong answer, rewatch the ad and try again.

[–] PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca 18 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

You joke but this is exactly how this specific ad works. My brother got it yesterday and he picked the wrong answer and the ad played again.

[–] y0kai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 weeks ago

I have no sympathy for anyone losing profits to piracy.

[–] LoamImprovement@beehaw.org 7 points 2 weeks ago

Fuck me sideways. We need to dismantle capitalism like yesterday.

[–] datavoid@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago

How is that legal, completely insane

[–] djsaskdja@reddthat.com 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This is how I become radicalized.

[–] krimsonbun@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago

You're on lemmy, you're already radicalised.

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah, we need a new war. This time against the rich.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

That's not a new war. It's the war behind all the other wars.

[–] theshatterstone54@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, but it's not a new war. It's an eternal war, and when those on top push too much, we push back. We call those stages revolutions, and maybe it's time to remind those on top that when a revolution happens, their heads get separated from their bodies. So either give us back some freedoms, or blood will be spilt. And it won't be our blood.

[–] ExcessShiv@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

What happens if you dont answer "correctly"?

[–] Micromot@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I would expect another ad or the same one again but I don't know

[–] r00ty@kbin.life 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I feel like the only even remotely acceptable way to do this is to show the ad, prompt for the answer for 10 seconds. They can log the right/wrong answer or if the time expires the lack of one and must move on.

I can imagine metrics knowing if your advertising is actually reaching people is valid. But to make people answer and especially make them watch more if they answer wrong is about as dystopian as it gets.

If (and I say if, I really don't want to believe it is) that is the case, the only correct response is to uninstall Hulu immediately and put on your pirate hat.

[–] datavoid@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If this was the case, I'd enter the wrong answer every time just to fuck with their metrics

[–] DannyBoy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Engaging in it by thinking about it and answering is going to make it stay in your mind longer and would be a success in the eyes of the advertisers.

[–] datavoid@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

In that case I'll enter the left answer every time

[–] Enkers@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

It plays again, but louder.

[–] DickFiasco@lemm.ee 4 points 2 weeks ago

New season of Black Mirror looks lit af.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Aaarrr matey, this for sure wouldn't be the reason why we pirate, would it?

Fuck all of this, I'm so sick and tired of technology advances leading to just more shit for money. I worked for only 9 months in a corporate environment that did shit like this and it nauseated me. Got fired for throwing the CTO under a freight train (figuratively) and never been happier for being fired.

[–] max_dryzen@mander.xyz 4 points 2 weeks ago

You're not sick of technology you're sick of not having real control of technology

[–] theshatterstone54@feddit.uk 3 points 2 weeks ago

I'd love to become rich, so I can keep on pirating as a statement. Or to show a rich guy how much better pirating is as a service.

Maybe then we can get their attention and prove that enshittification is the problem, and not the cost.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 2 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

what happens when you answer wrong?

[–] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

Just a liitle electric shock.

[–] Wiz@midwest.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

It tells you the right answer. It then it froze up and crashed my Fire TV.

[–] fsxylo@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

If it's like captcha, the same thing as when you answer right... Start all over.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

Will be interesting to see where this goes. I know I have said it before and they might not think im serious but so help me satan I will read books. Do they want that!

[–] EonNShadow@pawb.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

Bleh.

This is awful.

[–] RedstoneValley@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

What's the purpose of this? You have to supply a correct answer to make the ad go away?

[–] ryan213@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago
[–] yetAnotherUser@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

That's really stupid, but there's one (unimportant) thing I'm not understanding. When they ask the numbers of rows in the car, are they asking the number of rows of seats?

[–] Moonrise2473@feddit.it -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's a free service, right? It's not a paid service, right?

[–] I_am_10_squirrels@beehaw.org 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Nope, you pay either way. I think it's $10/mo for the ad supported tier, and $20/mo fke the ad free tier.

You pay to see ads.

[–] Moonrise2473@feddit.it 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

My limited brain can't understand the concept of pay+ads

People actually do that?

[–] Grostleton@lemm.ee 3 points 2 weeks ago

Funny enough, Hulu has been doing a paid+ads tier from the get-go, long before other services started jumping on this bandwagon.

Never made sense to me why anyone would want it then, and it still doesn't make sense even now that all the services are offering similar plans. People pining for that cable TV experience maybe?
