It's not a headache. Pretty sure it's covid. Feel the same as i did last time I had it.

Ordered some rat tests to be delivered.

Laaaaaaaaame

Edit: I have an excuse to just zonk on the couch and play video games i guess.

Boo to Christmas covid!

I hope it's mild at least.

Make sure you get a medical certificate so you can swap some of your leave for sick leave.

I hate to sound like a Grinch but I'll be glad when Xmas is over. Now that I'm not working I've got plenty of time to feel how stressed out I am.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 6 points 6 months ago

I hate how everything is up in the air, busy and then closed. It’s a really disruptive time of year

[–] Llabyrinthine@aussie.zone 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I have to admit, I feel like a bit of a ping pong. I’ve got unexpected time off, but I don’t know how to relax into a β€œtime-off” mode.

There is always something to do. Even if I’m not doing something, my brain is.

Happy solstice day guys :)

It truly doesn't matter. An automated task would be out by a few seconds occasionally anyway.

If you are interested in playing with it, brisbot's code is here.

It's family xmas day for me - and the longest day of the year. For a number of reasons. One good thing is the venue is Somers on Westernport Bay, where my brother has a house. It's been my family's go to spot for holidays since about 1966 and while it's changed a lot I still love it there.
Taking a hot-smoked trout with cajun spices for my contribution to the feast, and some toum.

Should be thinking about starting to prep the cooking for Christmas Day but I’m gonna read all day instead 😏

[–] underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 11 points 6 months ago (5 children)

I should clean, but I'm going to read instead.

This is your periodic reminder to plot the kidnapping of butters from his undeserving humans.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 6 points 6 months ago

I am looking forward to butters. Shame about the rest though heh.

RIP to anyone who had hoped to go to the Grampians over xmas/NY. It's not looking great especially with the scorcher predicted on Boxing Day.

Today I need to go water two friends' plants and sort out the crap I've left at one place. I'm loathe to face the small pile but I WILL do it! And then plan my cooking for Xmas lunch as I'm working Monday and Tuesday.

I'm almost wondering if it might be worth it to work from home on Sunday instead and cut short Tuesday so it's less of a rush. Might just do that...

Keen to hear how @just_kitten@aussie.zone is doing this morning :)

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 13 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Completely hunky dory, woke up before 7 even and while I've been lolling around in bed I feel good and normal with zero headaches. Just about to roll out and make myself an omelette. Miraculous!

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 8 points 6 months ago (2 children)

🫠 have you tried to walk yet?

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 8 points 6 months ago

I can report that I have not walled into any walks yet ;)

[–] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 8 points 6 months ago

No, but she's tried to wall.

Gee. I don't think I'll try this insomnia tablet.

So does anyone else feel fucking terrified of "having sex" while being completely blacked out?

Making phone calls would be even more of a nightmare I reckon. More possible consequences and a pretty long tail of them.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 6 points 6 months ago

Is it Ambien? Boyo has some terrifying and hilarious tales from taking that.

If you're wondering how much the 59g eggs at Vic Market weigh, wonder no longer. They are 65g each.

Lol, just saw that Johnson & Johnson have a class action against them, because Phenylephrine does nothing for nasal congestion.

I'm like, we all knew that, so yay someone is holding them accountable. I did see people complaining how hard it is to get the proper stuff OTC, Pseudoephedrine, but I've never had a problem getting it from my little local pharmacy - though that may be because they know me by name now and they ping I'm not a drug maker lol.

But yes, Phenylephrine does nothing for colds and flus.

Johnson & Johnson

Arseholes also lied about talc.

Feels good. Now to scramble for the remaining presents.

Much as I like my penalty rates I do miss those times when Christmas meant time off and a proper break from work/school. Squeezing a family Christmas dinner into my normal two days off just doesn't have the same feel.

[–] omoikiri@aussie.zone 8 points 6 months ago (9 children)

You know how in the Catholic/orthodox church you take communion by eating a cracker and drinking some port wine that represents the body and blood of Christ?

What are your two communion items that represent your body and blood?

I think I’d be gin and tonic and scotch finger biscuits β€” the kind with the chocolate on them.

Have to organise the board for next year's gigs. Cable management here i come.

Also, I wish I could push the TV from the lounge room to the bedroom. Now I regret that i bought a stupidly big one.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 10 points 6 months ago (3 children)

That is art!

I have given up on management.

On the home stretch now.

All the windows are washed and the back deck is pressure washed. Both fridges are cleaned inside and out. I might need something for a hard earned thirst.

Quirks of moving I forgot about: getting confused, disoriented, and muscle memory breaking down. Got absorbed into a video early on my computer, and got really confused when I heard the blind on the small window behind me clank, because I didn't have a window behind me in the last place

Then I forgot where the door was and almost walked into the wall. Brain tried to autofill the space with what was normal a week ago I suppose

I think part of the reason this is affecting me more than when I moved into the last place is that this time the furniture and layout is very similar, but windows and doors are in different spots. It even looks similar to the last place in my peripheral vision, besides the lower roof. I've even got the same bed and desk just about in the same spots they were relative in the last place

On a more positive note I'm excited about the possibilities of a gigantic floor to ceiling pantry! I could store so much stuff. After unloading what was about a 3 quarter full pantry from the last place into here, it looks like I haven't gone shopping in weeks and barely have anything. I do, however, have a much smaller fridge/freezer. It came with the house (along with the washing machine). I might ask for funding to get a larger or more energy efficient fridge before I turn 18 and it officially becomes my problem. Or failing that I might set up a saved search on guntree until something suitable comes along at the right price. Since I've got one that works, I'm mostly worried about energy efficiency

Making good, but very slow progress in rearranging the abode.

Interesting thing is that while the couch is in a weird place, it’s opened up the space so much, I still can’t get over it whenever I walk through the door.

Still have a fair bit of crap to sort out though.

Meanwhile, my dirty little secret of the month is the amount of cheesy Christmas shows I’m devouring.

I now want to find the most Christmassy place to partake in the most cheesiest Christmas things I can do. πŸ˜‚

Good work! I rearranged the bedroom at my last place a bit over a month ago as a sort of change is as good as a holiday type thing. I was going loosely based on the principles of Feng Shui. Previously my bed was in a horrible position. Had to bump into it to get to my desk or cupboard or dresser or really anything else. I ended up rearranging it into the corner which did block wardrobe access but I never used it anyway

It was a bit awkward because of how I wanted to place my desk (I wanted to face the door, not have my back turned to it) which exposed all my cables. And since I knew it was only temporary, I didn't bother trying to cable manage

It made the space feel so much bigger and more comfortable!
