Time to make sure everyone in America understands what jury nullification is.

[–] shortwavesurfer@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The people I heard about jury nullification from was the libertarians. So this is quite interesting to see.

[–] Comment105@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It would be interesting to see this take the direction of "Jury Nullification of CEO Assassin trial > Supreme Court makes Jury Nullification no longer a thing, letting Judges dismiss it and make the decision themselves > CEO Assassin is retrialed and executed"

Especially the reaction afterwards would be interesting.

[–] Mercury@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

The reaction afterwards is really boring, trust me.

Luigi Mangione was taken into custody at a McDonald's in Pennsylvania. CNN quoted law enforcement sources as saying a document seized off of him reads, "These parasites had it coming."

Another comment in the document read, "I do apologize for any strife and trauma, but it had to be done."

Not a lawyer, but isn't this circumstantial at best? Unless there's more to the document than this.

Gofundme, for profit site, took it down.

Surprise, surprise.

May it be boycotted forever.

We need some public version of Gofundme

To who? Who manages it? How does the word get out?

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Who sets up the GoFundMe campaign? Who manages that? How do they advertise it?

Answer my questions and you have the answers to yours

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The answer to your second two questions is gofundme

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

Really? GoFundMe posts the link on social media?

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 28 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Did this guy want to be caught? Walking around with incriminating objects, walking into a McDonalds instead of laying low.

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 23 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I dunno, seems kind of convenient doesn't it?

[–] Breezy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Its like the guy they caught is just a normal dude taking the fall. We cant put it past the adjuster, seems smart, but is also very cute, so might get away with it.

[–] demizerone@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Prolly wants that free prison healthcare.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 27 points 2 years ago (2 children)

From wired

On X, what appears to be his account featured an image of what looks to be an X-ray following major spinal cord surgery, one of the few explicit references to health care in his online account history.

A GoodReads account featuring a photo of the suspect that also shares a username with an email address and GitHub account linked to Mangione includes several books related to back pain, including Crooked: Outwitting the Back Pain Industry and Getting on the Road to Recovery.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 6 points 2 years ago

Thanks for sharing that. He sounds so normal and relatable. I wish the best for him.

[–] ClockNimble@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago

Lol, they are throwing thr first guy that looks remotely close to the shooter behind bars to take a victory lap. Typical police.

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

I think the elites changed the words from "have" to "had" ;)

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 2 points 2 years ago

No lie detected

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee -1 points 2 years ago

They're right the parasite CEO had it... Oh, they meant the suspect. #ACAB
