Putin begging to be invited / offering to western pro-european Ukraine to protect them from Poland instead of the usual direct NATO/Poland threatening was not in my bingo card...

don't turn this into a world war, Vlad, we have more than enough problems already.

[-] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago

It wouldn't be a world war, it wouldn't even be a world w.

This isn't a war, this is pest control.

I had talked to a pole in 2021. He suggested the russians stalling at the Dnipro and Poland taking the western parts of Ukraine to protect them from Russia. So that scenario doesn't seem so noncredible to me...

...for 2021 standards

[-] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago

I hope that's a typo and you meant 2022. If that pole had that much insight into the invasion before it happened you need to get him on the line because he's a goddamn wizard and I have some unrelated questions.

I mean it was the beginning of the build-up of the russians and he is a historian, so yeah, i would say it was an educated guess.

Double check if it wasn't one of those crackpot nationalists that want to take Lviv because it was in Poland at some point

Luka trying to lay the groundwork for Belarus invading? I can't imagine Poland would sit idly by.

[-] Evilsmiley@sh.itjust.works 11 points 11 months ago

Did you see them claim that 'they are barely able to stop wagner from invading Poland.'

They cannot possibly think attackingnpoland could help them in this war, so who tf knows what is going on

[-] damnYouSun@sh.itjust.works 14 points 11 months ago

Attacking Poland would be a stupid thing to do even if Poland wasn't a member of NATO.

The Russians can barely fight a war on one front, opening a second front would be insanely stupid.

Poland has all the same weapons Ukraine has, plus an air force capable of hitting the broad side of the barn.

What am I saying of course they're going to do it. This is the country that thinks that orbitally dropping unguided bombs constitutes an effective military strategy.

Hard to think of anybody the average polish dude would rather whack than a bunch of russkies cosplaying Germans.

A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Random twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Low Hanging Fruit thread.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. These include Social media screenshots with a title punchline / no punchline, recent (after the start of the Ukraine War) reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Low effort thread instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.
