Interview went well!!!

Invited to meet the ceo in person next week :)

If i get this, I'm done climbing the ladder. This is the role that will keep me with a safety net.

Something else happened this week which was cool. I reconnected with one of my best friends that I lost when I went off the rails. I found him on Facebook and apologised for my behaviour and he actually messaged me back saying "... I know that wasn't the real you".

It's been 12 years since we spoke. Tomorrow he's going to call me so we can catch up.

I've been struggling with feeling isolated the last few months. Wondering if it's going to be like this for the rest of my life.

I'm so fucking glad he responded. We were inseperable. He taught me to play drums and I taught him guitar.

Healthcare CEO shot and killed I for one am STOKED to watch the US finally kick off the "eat the rich" portion of late stage capitalism.

The last few words of that article

"touched so many lives".

He certainly did. Was reading that UHC had the highest claim denial rate in the US, something like 33%.

I thought I'd share this story. I don't know why.

spoilerMy husband drank a lot of coca cola over the years. He loved the sound of a new bottle opening and would slug it down. He was also slightly overweight and had high blood pressure which he was taking medication for. No doubt he was heading for diabetes.

An off hand comment by me "you'd lose weight if you stopped drinking coke and curb the consumption of 2 icecreams a night" made him think.

He gave up the coke. He ate less icecream and as a result he lost 20kg in a matter of months. He did nothing else differently. It was so dramatic that people were asking him if he was ok. His medication was reduced, he gained abs and he could see his balls for the first time in a long time. His watch told him he has the fitness of a 20 year old. He's 50 next year. He feels great.

The thing is he replaced the coke addiction with a diet cordial addiction. No sugar he declares. I happen to read the back of the bottle and there's nothing in the nutritional panel but the ingredients were things I've never even heard of. I point this out to him. He says he has 5 bottles to get rid of. I told him he doesn't have to get rid of them straight away. Have it when you feel like it.

He is now looking at everything. "Why does my chips have sugar in them? Im not get these again".

The point is, its ok to have these things occasionally but if you wanna look and feel better have a look at things you mindlessly eat.

[โ€“] Duenan@aussie.zone 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I've had the same problem so to speak.

I switched up my diet inadvertently and also cut out a lot of sugary drinks and stuff and I've accidently lost weight because of that.

What's not so nice is that people think I've lost weight and there's a problem because of it.

I had to talk to someone the other day and explain that I am actually eating well and stuff and because of inflation and a few choices to not buy certain things any more it's led to my accidental weight loss.

I don't like having to discuss my weight at all and I also don't really pay attention to it but it bothers me and I made it known.

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago (5 children)

No one likes to talk face to face about their weight but dramatic weightloss makes people concerned that maybe cancer is involved.

It is good that you made it known that you are ok and don't want to discuss it any further.

Good on him. I cut the soft drinks many years ago when I started looking after my health, they're full of sugar and empty calories. I never crave soft drink anymore. Turned to diet drinks initially when making the switch, and then eventually you can cut those as well. The awful artificial chemical taste of most of them gets old quick. These days I go for ice tea if I want a sweet drink, but water does me fine.

Wow that's great. Good onya.

Was about to head back to melbs.. look down next to my foot and there's a funny looking big XLR cable. Audio studio cables everywhere. Fuckn cable moved. Was a brown snake about 50cm long. Managed to get it outside thankfully it wasn't aggressive. I'm not very upset by snakes except the eastern brown snake. Those mfers will ruin your day. Sheesh.

It's not really an interview but I am meeting a principal at a (Catholic) school about my placement on Monday. Chinos and a button shirt should be ok?

Shoes are gonna be a problem now that I think about it.

Let me introduce one of the strays I've been feeding near my place. I'm really excited because one of them is starting to trust me. I've found them waiting around 8-9pm which is kind of cool.

Welcome to the time of the year where I cry at the drop of a hat. This morning weโ€™ve had because my eyeliner is wonky, my pants feel scratchy, a song made me think of my dog and IDK, just work in general. Today sucks.

Something positive to balance the post is that I received a package of โ€œhomemadeโ€ jams and sauces and omg the roasted capsicum ketchup is delicious. And they threw in a sample of their raspberry jam and I want to bathe in it.

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 11 points 1 week ago

My good deed for the day is done: I picked the rest of the cherries from the tree & took them up to the food cupboard with a couple of kilo of parsnips. Walking up to the cupboard with Mr Woof seemed like a great idea, but carrying about 8kg whilst managing a dog leash is not the easiest of tasks.

Random memory: During the time Melbcat needed a lot of trips to emergency and before I had any help or the pram, a taxi driver refused to let her carrier in the car and demanded that she go in the boot. I can tell you that did not happen. I argued with the driver until he refused to take us, called another ride and then boycotted the taxi company.

This was for reasons of not wanting to put her in a dark claustrophobic airless space by herself, and separated from me. (Thereโ€™s no reason the driver would have taken off with her but I didnโ€™t want to even make that possible.) Also if the vehicle got hit from behind she would have been severely injured or killed. It was unsafe.

And now I see that what he was trying to push me into was illegal.

  1. Transport Minimum standards

Adequate ventilation must be provided in the vehicle and travelling container or cage.

And

Travelling containers must be secured or restrained in the vehicle. Cats must not be transported in the boot of a car.

https://agriculture.vic.gov.au/livestock-and-animals/animal-welfare-victoria/pocta-act-1986/victorian-codes-of-practice-for-animal-welfare/code-of-practice-for-the-private-keeping-of-cats#%3A%7E%3Atext=Travelling+containers+must+not+have%2Cthe+boot+of+a+car.

Fuck that guy. My instincts were correct and even in a difficult situation I stuck to my guns and protected my cat.

I should have lodged a complaint but had my hands full and nothing would have come of it.

Be a Karen if you need to, people.

Made it back to Melbs.

Caught the 109 home from southern x. 109 is usually a c class. 2 middle floor bits swivel as it turns corners. Anyway my backpack clip got caught in the gap as it turned and I couldn't get it out. Clip was just swallowed by the floor disc of despair. So there I am every corner the tram turned trying to get the fuckin thing out.

We got there though! Otherwise would've had to have waited until box hill and get the driver to help lol.

The daily Discussion Thread sounds shit. I dare whoever to make it The Melbourne chitchat thread. Creativity people. Let's be different.

[โ€“] TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I kinda like the consonance between DT (daily thread) and the dts (delirium tremens). Failing that ..... Gossip Central is descriptive. Gossip in its nicest sense of course.

Hi, Indonesian here. Just wanna ask, is it true that Bahasa Indonesia are taught in schools in Australia? I talked to an Australian recently and surprised that they can speak a bit of Indonesian

Selamat datang! I learnt Bahasa Indonesia in primary school in the nineties. I've forgotten most of it but some key words and phrases have stuck. All schools teach at least one language other than English, but which language it is varies by school.

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago

Sure is! My primary school in the 90s taught us in my language class :D

I have spent $964.60 on coffees this year. As they've crept up from $3 to $4 to $5.30 over the last decade or so, I haven't noticed the difference it makes to overall finances.

If I had a club membership at the cafe where coffees were free, but annual membership cost $1k, I wouldn't take that up. Yet, it amounts to the same thing.

A bit sweltery out there already. I managed to get the back garden area mostly weeded and did some cutting back of overhanging trees and the bamboo.

I had a parsnip and carrots self seed in there early this year, so weeding has yielded me a basket full of carrot and parsnip (mostly parsnip). I think I'll be taking some of the parsnip up to the food cupboard, I doubt I'll be able to eat it all myself. If I can find enough enthusiasm to brave the heat and pick some more cherries I might take some of those up too, but right now I think it's way to hot and icky to contemplate it/
