Tipping culture should die.
Comic Strips
Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.
Rules
-
π Be Nice!
- Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
-
ποΈ Community Standards
- Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
- Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
- Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
- Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
-
𧬠Keep it Real
- Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
-
π½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due
- Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
- Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
-
π Post Formatting
- Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
- Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
- When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
β Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
β Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
-
π¬ Post Frequency/SPAM
- Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 π) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 π) will be removed.
-
π΄ββ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
-
πΏ Moderation
- We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
- When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Web Accessibility
Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.
When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:
Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

how are we supoosted to give back to the community of muggers then?
Iβve been trying little things to help brighten their day, like artisanal wallets or little jokes that I write down on cards and put in my pockets
The best way to end tipping culture is to unionise hospitality workers. As customers, what we need to do is encourage and support working class solidarity, talk loudly about our support for unions, encourage employees to organise, all that kind of stuff.
It's not a mugging if you aren't at least beat up. This is nothing but robbery. No tip!
You have to tip anyway or the workers donβt get paid, come on hun donβt embarrass me like this itβs only $10.00.
Mugging is a crime involving an attack on an individual in a public place with the intent to rob them. It typically involves physical assault or the threat of violence to coerce the victim into surrendering their possessions.
Personally I tend to find guns pretty threatening.
Or your definition is wrong.
https://www.dictionary.com/browse/armed-robbery.
If having a gun made them all mugging, then no one who wasnt caught in the act would ever get charged with armed robbery.
Or, you know, mugging is not the name of the actual crime...
Negative tip
Who's the mugger now?
Interface designers make mistakes, but I don't think they'd make the mistake of allowing a negative sign anywhere on it. You could try for integer overflow, but that's gonna be really bad if you guess wrong.
One time I did come across one of these that popped the whole iPad keyboard up, I tried to enter a negative number and clearly the programers were extra dumb because it managed to crash the whole POS and force a reboot
ETA: cashier thought it was hilarious, store owner got so mad he banned me from the store "for life"
banned me from the store βfor lifeβ
Awesome! I hope you refused to honor it unless he put a poster on the front door with a picture of you and a ghostbusters-style "no" sign around it.
The Thieves Guild punchcard: Get 12 muggings and the 13th converts your mugging to a light burgling at the address of your choice! [*]
[*] You must present your punchcard before physical violence begins. If the address to be burgled is a police station, the next mugging will be upgraded to murder. Management takes 75% of all tips. Do not make Management sad. You wouldn't like Management when it is sad.
That first bit reads so much like Pratchett
If it's not then props, it reads almost exactly like a line from one of the Night Watch books would
That's exactly what I was going for, but I changed watch house to police station for the non-Discworld enthusiasts.
Success, I'd say. You're really a frood dude who knows where his towel is finger guns
Thanks, but lately I feel more "Oh no, not again"...
It really sounds like something that Mr. Pin and Mr. Tulip heard from a guild member in The Truth, but I can't find the reference exactly.
Addendum, The establishment known as 'The Bucket' on Gleam street is considered a police station for the purposes of this punch card.
I hope the thief has his licence ready, otherwise the guild hall is getting a new weather vane.
Where I'm from, we strung 'em up by the bura'zak-ka.
Starting tip being 15% instead of 18 or 20? Unrealistic
Ridiculous comic, they forgot to include the mugger asking if the victim is in the rewards program.
This is so inaccurate, they don't have a no tip button you have to input custom then 0 dollars
If it's from the amount of money he have, the more tip they give, the less 'money' they'll have.
(It's the same amount anyways, and doesn't make sense.)
