Do they think it would be easier to just elect Democrat presidents and therefore fix everything totally? Plus the template’s stupid. Why would the school force Bart to write such?

There are so many "cartoon character and blank board to write your opinion on" memes. Please don't use this one. That's not what this one is for. You've had 35 years of examples of how to use this meme. I hate you.

Those memes all suck anyway, if you have an opinion, say your opinion.

what about if the indigenous reservations, in total, were worth 1000 electoral votes. and they made their own rules for voting rights and ballot access.

I could get down with that.

Decolonization by assimilation but indigenous parties get to destroy colonizer parties through liberal democracy. Wait, the electoral college only elects the president and settlers would still control the rest of the government…

The charitable interpretation is that since a state's number of electors is equal to its representation in Congress, that each reservation having electors would also necessarily mean that Indian Country would have some 75% of the House of Representatives and 82% of the Senate.

I mean it still wouldn't change the fact that it's decolonization by assimilation, but it does make it considerably funnier. Like 82% of the Senate stands empty 'cause the Natives decided to use the Sinn Féin strat

I didn't think about that, but maybe with the Supreme Court ruling saying the president can do extralegal executions, war against citizens, and generally operate above all laws the solution would present itself immediately and they could drastically reorganize everything pretty quick.

I mean if the choice is between reservations that are controlled by American laws and have no representation, and ones that do have representation, then representation is better - but the best would be something where they get full sovereignty instead of the current system where they kinda get it but not really and especially not when a corporation wants to do something on "their" land.

Amything that would have a predictable effect on elections would be blocked in the legislature, and this is certainly part of that category. It would mostly be peeling electoral representation from Oklahoma, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, and Montana.

A recent video from the office of flattened-bernie had him talking about "how the next generation could easily have a pathway to getting rid of the power of money in elections. That pathway? Passing a law that overturns Citizens United. Yeah, good luck getting that even so far as a House vote.

It got cross posted with the tag “memes 👏are👏theory👏” unironically 💀.

[-] coeliacmccarthy@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago

it would help get democrats elected

unfortunately democrat paychecks depend on not getting elected

I'm a bit uncertain of that. Aren't there some in indigenous communities that trend Republican, especially in certain rural red states.

[-] coeliacmccarthy@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

I live on a rural red state rez and here tribal members vote around 80% D

there are probably exceptions (cherokee/seminole vote more conservative maybe?) but as a general rule indians do not vote republican

Cherokee and Seminole were what I was thinking about. And just a gut feeling that the indigenous vote just doesn't break like, say the African American vote does, like 85/90-10.

[-] TheDoctor@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

Are there any tribes that, given sovereignty over their own land, would institute an electoral college? I don’t believe any of them are currently run that way.

[-] iridaniotter@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

Well then half of the electoral votes would go to reservations which is good & I support but obviously would never happen
