"If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing" (I heard this in a Stephanie Sterling video, but they most likely didn't coin it)

Piracy is just more convenient too, no checking which of the ten different streaming services has Slop X, only to find out none of them do and piracy is the only option anyway hahaha

I argue for piracy because these companies will not pay their artists a living wage and nearly all of the profit goes to gatekeepers and industry execs.

I would happily pay for every single work I read if I knew that the artist behind it was not a week from going homeless.

"If you pirate those works I can't pay them" yeah you don't pay them even when I buy it so stfu.

It's not piracy because you aren't taking anything away from anyone. dubois-finger-guns

Infinite copying of copyrighted materials on the Global North izutsumi-idea

Corpos made up the term piracy because they didn't want anyone to realize that what they were doing was preventing people from sharing.

They should've made up a better term, because piracy is just cool as hell straw-hat-pirates

Think about STEAM in relation to this, just saying.

[-] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 17 points 2 months ago

Steam should become a public service owned by nobody, but maintained by all, like air or water.

Or perhaps heated water, to the point of evaporation...

Imagine buying ten thousand dollars of movies on a fucking streaming app. Not even a cool Blu ray collection or a techy server rack, but a streaming service.

Honestly I always feel bemused when people are mad their big collections are gone che-smile like yeah it's shit but you put money into a streaming whatever?
