Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

MODERATORS

Image is of a colectivo: an armed group, usually operating in impoverished areas, which act to support and defend the socialist government of Venezuela. They are often derided as vigilante terrorist groups which prop up the government, because cops are only bad when they are socialist and not murdering minorities, I suppose.

Maduro's party, the PSUV, has won the election after a staggering amount of propaganda by the opposition, who said their polls suggested they were going to win and that Maduro's loss was inevitable. The reaction across Latin America is what one would expect. Left-leaning leaders are generally respecting the results and congratulating Maduro, while those on the right and/or are US puppets (such as in semirecently-couped Peru) are calling for recounts, or even that the election was illegitimate. The US itself is also unhappy about the results. We shall soon see if their unhappiness boils over into yet another coup attempt.

Personally, I think they should have ran Guaido again.

guaido-despair guaido

Thank you to @Redcuban1959@hexbear.net for the election coverage here, and everything else they do in the news megathread.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful. Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

MintPress News (Jul 30, 2024 · 1:53 PM UTC)

MintPress journalist and senior staff writer Alan McLeod is stuck in a hotel in Caracas, along with hundreds of international election observers and journalists, as a US backed far right mob backed by opposition figure Edmundo Gonzalez block roads and attempt a violent coup against Maduro.

Opposition mobs have blocked buses of international election observers and journalists from going to the airport and have rerouted them.

You really must love democracy if you're attacking election observers. /s

OAS does not approve a resolution that required Venezuela's electoral body to make the electoral records public. Brazil and Colombia abstained from voting, Mexico was absent.

The resolution proposed by the Organization of American States, which demanded electoral transparency in Venezuela, the publication of all the minutes, respect for human rights and the preservation of last Sunday's electoral material, was not approved by the OAS. Brazil, Mexico and Colombia led a blockade of abstentions in order not to approve the measure. The paragraph on the independent audit is what caused the countries to block the measure.

In Favor: 17

Against: 0

Abstention: 11

Absences: 5

Clashes between opposition protesters and security forces around El Rosal in East Caracas. The National Guard set up a picket line to stop the march from heading westward. Super tense situation following the CNE proclaiming Maduro's electoral victory earlier today

Not many protest around downtown Caracas. It's raining in Sucre, so there aren't that many people there too and it seem peaceful in Sucre.

while I'm sure the zionist defilers are drinking champagne tonight (may their end arrive swiftly and mercilessly), from my armchair across the ocean I never really got the impression Hanniyeh was especially vital to the resistance fighting on the ground. Certainly there's no shortage of seasoned commanders able to step up in that regard after months of urban combat.

Could this be a big deal politically though? I don't really know internal Hamas affairs. I'm sure that hostage deal that was "almost there" (for weeks) is pretty much dead now

Only seen one of those eyes on Venezuela type posts twice in the past few days. Guess my Instagram circle is either not aware or knows better. One guy I went to high school with posted a PSL graphic which honestly, good on him!

They report that agents of the SEBIN (Venezuela's FBI) have arrested opposition leaders, such as former deputy Freddy Superlano of the Popular Will party. The same case for at least two other members of the opposition

Freddy Superlame is getting the Anez treatment

I want to thank the Venezuelanalysis team for their principled, timely and accurate reporting for the election/election-day. It was good to have a reliable new source in face of the shrills of compradors and the anglosphere media.

Amid increased tension in the Middle East, the US is sending cruisers and destroyers, two types of warships, to the region. A squadron of fighters was also sent to reinforce the “defensive air support capability” in the Middle East.

I was going to put this in a thread on c/cth but it got deleted

It does not take a Voltron combination brain genius formed of the spirits and life energy ofkarl-barx , parenti , no-choice ,costanza-maoist , and theanti-thatcher-action to understand the materialist forces behind something like October 7th happening. So it's been something to watch the pretzel knots people have tied themselves into justifying or turning away from a yet-to-be-completely legally adjudicated but in the process of determining what is definitely a genocide of the Palestinian people as detailed in various reputable journals such as The Lancet which suggests 168,000 people could die in the coming months and the past year, from the effects of the relentless destruction campaign that Israel has carried out in the goal of opening up Gaza to their population of settler Airbnb property developers and rent-seekers.

Also, I made a post on c/mutual_aid https://hexbear.net/post/3111572

Looks like Venezuelan streets are to remain hot. After Maduro called for the Supreme Court to intervene in order to clarify and validate the election results, far-right María Corina Machado urged supporters to mobilize and "collect" on their declared electoral victory

Chavismo is already holding daily rallies in support of the government. And past opposition mobilizations have been the prelude to widespread violence

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has requested a Supreme Court review of the July 28 presidential election results, citing the need for clarity amid opposition allegations of fraud.

Algerian elections update:

Presidential election: Constitutional Court announces definitive list of candidates

ALGIERS- The Constitutional Court announced Wednesday the definitive list of the candidates running for the presidential election of September 7th, namely, Mr Youcef Aouchiche, from the Socialist Forces Front party, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune, an independent candidate, and Mr Abdelaali Hassani Cherif, from the Movement of Society for Peace.

simple explanation for the candidates

None of the candidates are liberals, all are anti-atlanto-zionism pro-China and pro-third-world, Tebboune and Hassani Cherif are pro-Iran but I'm not sure about Aouchiche.

bonus news: Mohamed Ould Ghazouani won the Mauritanian elections

Mark Kelly is maybe top-cop VP pick. Source DNC Spam text "emerged as a front runner" from 314action.org.

Edit: You all are right it's not in stone yet. News reports is she will announce her pick on Monday 8/5.

Kelly .... not THAT one kelly too John McStain's senate seart. He is a war mongering colonizer, astronaut, and married to Rep. Gabbie Giffords who was shot in the head. So probably big on cracking down on gun control, but that also means Dems lose a senate seat too. Idiots.

Oh noes we can't get anything done due to a self inflicted wound!
