You can always download it and then immediately uninstall the EGS app if you hate it but it's worth it for this game

It's got gorgeous art and incredible music and surreal writing and a cast with plenty of interesting queer characters and you can romance a bat and get a third eye installed and assassinate a sun

You can use Heroic Games Launcher to play EGS games without installing their app. It can even be used to play them on Steam Deck.

my main recommendation for this and sunless seas is don't play on permadeath

i found their attempt at rogue-lite mechanics added nothing to the game, and i got exponentially less enjoyment out of the story segments with each repeat playthrough

Agreed. I made my one guy who obsessively sought the truth of the stars and I'm not letting RNGesus kill him

Is playing Sunless Seas before this necessary?

[–] ProgAimerGirl@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

nope, there's some callbacks but no really necessary worldbuilding that isn't contained within skies itself

Not really? But at the same time the entire game is kind of one big spoiler for Seas

I tried it for a while, and felt like I was always lost, running out of supplies, and barely breaking even so I could never afford to buy upgrades.

Oh hey, sounds like my life

I didn't find it very fun

Yeah, I agree that it's not very compelling. The gameplay was boring and the writing was passable but not great, so there was no real draw.
