Trailer

This is the best sci-fi I have seen for years, and I do not mean animated sci-fi but sci-fi in general! The beautiful artistic style of the show is heavily inspired by the art of Moebius, Hayao Miyazaki, Philippe Druillet and Alexandro Jodorowsky and also references such beloved classics as AKIRA, ALIEN and many more. Please watch it on Netflix if you can, it will increase the chance of a second season of this masterpiece getting produced. The ones of you who have already watched it, what do you think?

Just finished last night, ohh boy what a trip this show was. I liked how the show started with the survivors already used to their environment, like they had been there for months. Really got imaginative with the different ways the characters interacted with the plant and animal life, like the scene where Ursula is staring at the flower. Some parts reminded me a lot of a Rick and Morty bit where Rick just invents something using the resources at his disposal.

Highly reccomend this show, would love to see another season, which is why I have also been suggesting this show to anyone and everyone.

Happy that you liked it! Now tell all your friends about it. We need to bring the views up so Netflix will greenlight season two!

[-] pm_me_your_thoughts@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

It was a good show. I'm happy with it being a single season only.

[-] Heterocephalus@lemm.ee 3 points 4 months ago

The story was obviously not done at the end of season one and, as you said, it was a good show, so why would you not want to see the rest of the story?

Awesome post.
Just to add on-- the art director here is "harriorrihar," i.e. Jon Juarez, previously introduced here once or twice.

Loved it. Finished the season and immediately told everyone I know to watch it.

Great to hear!

YES!! It’s gorgeous, I loved how character focused the story was. The horror didn’t reveal itself at first but it is definitely there and it’s excellent.

It was originally an HBO show, but since nobody uses whatever they named their service to this month it got moved over to Netflix

[-] Heterocephalus@lemm.ee 4 points 4 months ago

Yep, that is why it depends on Netflix now if there will be a second season. So let's spread the news and bring those views up!

[-] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 months ago

Oh man thank you, I was unaware

[-] Heterocephalus@lemm.ee 4 points 4 months ago

You are welcome! Now please tell all your friends about it and emphasize they should watch it on Netflix to make that second season happen!

[-] SapphironZA@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 months ago

The story fell a bit flat for me around the middle of the season.

But I certainly appreciate the thought and effort put into the ecology. That was amazing.

Great! Now convince your friends to also watch it on Netflix so they will produce the second season!

[-] Zeroc00l@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago

I believe it's already been cancelled unfortunately. Source: the movie database . org

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

all my search results online say it was canceled by max, and moved to netflix ... is there anything that confirms if netflix has any plans or cancellations?

[-] Zeroc00l@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago

Not that I can find, my source says cancelled at max & doesn't show anything about Netflix so must be out of date. That's awesome as it really is a great show. I don't seem to be able to edit my comment on mobile unfortunately.

[-] Heterocephalus@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago

Rumors are,. Netflix might produce season two, if season one gets enough views.

[-] Zeroc00l@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago

I'll definitely recommend it as it's great.

[-] gibmiser@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm only one episode in and this is great.

[-] Heterocephalus@lemm.ee 1 points 4 months ago

Happy to hear you are enjoying it! If we want a second season, as many people as possible have to watch it on Netflix. Spread the word!

[-] Hugin@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

I gave up after the first 4 episodes. It was pretty but very poorly thought out. Also I found all the characters boring.

It did inspire me to reread Nikapol.

[-] FilthyHookerSpit@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

I only made it 2 episodes in where I felt like most of the show was just stoner fan service. I felt like from what I saw it was mainly to show how trippy, vague and strange the world was. It just didn't hook me.

[-] freebee@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

Bit late, but thanks for this post, you made me watch it and I do thank you for that! Best show i've seen in a while.

[-] Heterocephalus@lemm.ee 1 points 4 months ago

Great to hear, thank you for the feedback!

Could someone explain what deal was with the psychic monkey frog and the red head towards the end? ::: starting from when the 2 merged. ::: After that I felt like I missed a chapter.

[-] Heterocephalus@lemm.ee 1 points 4 months ago

There a lot of discussions about the relationship/symbiosis of Hollow and Kamen, over on r/ScavengersReign. Basically, Hollow is a telepathic symbiote who connects with Kamen instead of the little toad like symbiotes his species co-evolved with. What happens then is subject of many discussions and interpreations.

[-] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 1 points 4 months ago

I felt Hollow motivations were unclear and took away from the show when he was actively attacking humans and hardware. Like destroying the empty ship seemed like a odd choice. Once he got to the freight ship It made more sense again. Loved the rest of the show just that small bit just couldn't get over.

I felt Hollow motivations were unclear and took away from the show when he was actively attacking humans and hardware.

Kamen's personality had influenced Hollow significantly at that point and that explains his behavior pretty well imo.

Loved the rest of the show just that small bit just couldn’t get over.

I also had several moments when things did not seem to make sense, guess I will notice more details when I watch it again.
