Why does everyone keep acting like it's some horrific aberration and portent of doom that an incumbent is running for reelection? It was certainly a possibility that Biden would choose to be a one term president, but it's not like choosing instead to run again is some out of character and wholly unexpected outcome, but everywhere I see talk about this display the surprise and incomprehension of if he had instead chosen to eat a baby on live television.
There have only been a couple exceptional situations where the incumbent has not been the candidate. Never in recent history. Incumbents have a 60% success rate of re-election across offices. It's even higher among presidents …only Bush Sr and Carter failed to win re-election since WWII.
Actually, there is one other: Trump. Who did he loose to again?
