"female" always sounds slimy to me. There's just something about the word

I think that might be the reason tbh

Female, pronounced "feeeeeeeeeeeemale" is a dead giveaway you're dealing with a reactionary G*mer chud nerd

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 30 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Which sucks because now I don't wanna use it when grammar demands. Oddly enough they seem to not want to use it when grammar demands either.

The trick is to use it as an adjective every time instead of as a noun. Nounification makes shit weird.

[–] CliffordBigRedDog@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

[–] HiImThomasPynchon@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (3 children)

Yeah, like why you callin' them "females" bud? Wanna be reminded of "males" when you talk about 'em?

The accepted ways for heterosexual men to refer to the opposite sex are: Chicks, babes, birds, broads, dames, girls/gals, lassies/lasses, señora, maidens, and Sheilas*

Edit:

*Only if you're Australian, otherwise it's appropriation

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I suppose women is out of the picture too?

[–] HiImThomasPynchon@hexbear.net 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Same problem as "females." You drop two letters and all you got is "men."

Sounds pretty gay to me ngl

[–] magi@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

"It's only gay if the balls touch sweaty"

Women is something they'd never say it's always females..

[–] StalinStan@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I like that we went for thr same bit instinctively

[–] HiImThomasPynchon@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago

Ah dang it, I forgot 'birds'

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago

Often, they're not attracted to women, they're attracted to girls

[–] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It’s used as an adjective here, not a noun. This is how people describe things even before the trend of documentarizing women in the past few years

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 2 points 2 years ago

And? It still sounds slimy to me

[–] DaPorkchop_@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Legitimately, how else would you say this? "Woman characters" clearly sounds wrong, "characters who are women" sounds unnecessarily long and clunky.

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'd just say "women". characters is redundant when you specify it's in a game.

[–] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

But that doesn’t make it wrong or misogynistic lol

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 2 points 2 years ago

I know? I was expressing a personal opinion about how hearing the word female made me feel

[–] StalinStan@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Broads, dames, birds, etc. Just anything a film noir detective would say

[–] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

As a woman, my identity is tied up in how i am different from men, this is normal

lol

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago

I don't understand what you're trying to tell me, I'm sorry
