Romans documented some eastern Anglo tribes chilling in bogs on hot days. Literally wallowing in peat, dead plant matter and mud. It's why they built so many bathhouses.
That's hilarious.
I've seen the wojack comics of it but never knew there was truth to it.
They either accidentally die in said bogs or also use said bogs for burials, the amount of preserved bodies that show up
But the Romans are not know to be particularly truthful in their reporting either. They were pretty racist. But it's racism against Anglos so it should be ok I think.
If it was just one guy who thought "fuck it, it's hot, I don't have anything to do, I'm going for a dip in the bog" and as he got comfortable, some Roman legionaries walked past, looked at him, went back to camp and noted "The native barbarians bathe in swamps", it would be a good bit
But the bogs aren't necessarily bad places to bathe, all things considered. They're acidic enough to prevent decomposition of corpses, so they're probably more sterile than still water.
kinda dope tbh
They've really fallen a long way.
Said bogs are filled with corpses. Even today, every now and then a perfectly preserved corpse floats up to the top
That's just Gavin
Got too chill
