Xanathar has a beloved pet goldfish he seems to treasure beyond all reason. Stealing it would be a very bad idea

No idea who the character is or what setting they are from, but it was kind of logical that it was their pet or familiar or something.

Xanathar is a beholder crime lord in Waterdeep/forgotten realms.

TIL Xanathar is an in-universe character and not the nickname of a real life DnD book author.

HEY! is that the beholder from baulders gate dark alliance on the PlayStation?

[-] UndercoverUlrikHD@programming.dev 15 points 11 months ago

I think that game is older than Xanathar's book.

This is from the plot on Wikipedia from the video game though

After navigating a gauntlet of traps they face and kill Karne, and then find the guild master, the beholder Xantam

Dang, that's a close name.

Setting: Dungeons and Dragons. 5th edition for sure, probably older.

Character: Xanathar is a Beholder, think Mike from Monsters Inc, with ten tentacles in place of arms and legs. Each arm ends with an eye.

Every beholder is an incredibly potent and lethal spell caster. And also incredibly wary of others. Mostly because how they reproduce is that they're magical enough to make things they dream real subconsciously, and that includes new rival beholders.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply! I haven't played D&D since 3.5. Played all versions before it so I've encountered beholders before. It was even on the cover of one of the core books in one of the versions I think. Or at least we had a much used book with it on. My friend group never played pre-made adventures/settings, only did home brew content so I never got to know much og the characters that appear in memes and such.

Beholders cast spells? I thought they just had eye beams.
