Reminds me of an old joke. "How do you know if someone runs Arch Linux?" "Don't worry, they'll tell you."

[-] backhdlp@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago

I use arch btw

4790 and a 2070. Interesting.

No shade; our backup VR machine uses a 4760k OC’d and a 2070s. But our main machines definitely benefited from much more recent processors.

[-] ShitOnABrick@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Uhm ashtually I use arch BTW

If you didn't know: X is terribly unsafe and old. Wayland is so much better, and it's pretty stable on KDE Plasma by now.

[-] Moxvallix@sopuli.xyz 2 points 11 months ago

That would be nice. Unfortunately, theres currently a bug in Wayland where the panel stops updating (the time no longer changes etc.) which is a no go for me.

How much was it I've seen some older am4 and 6th gen intel mainly hp and dell laptops go for insanely cheap on ebay and other used selling sites I might consider getting one myself

[-] backhdlp@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 11 months ago

Bought it new in 2021 for 600€, tho it was more likely worth just 400€, now probably below 300€.

[-] ShitOnABrick@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Eh at least you enjoy it

[-] AVincentInSpace@pawb.social 1 points 1 year ago

could be worse, I daily drive an Alienware

Dell has made some just... so good hardware design decisions yk? I've sent it in for repairs twice to have the trackpad replaced since it was flaking out and either registering nothing or what I can only assume was the result of two contact points being shorted together randomly jumping the mouse all over the place. I'm on my third trackpad, it's not even been six months yet, and I'm already seeing the warning signs.

Also there's a loose connection on the mobo between the CPU and the audio chip meaning that if it gets bumped the speakers will either cut out or blast static at max volume with no way to turn it down.

Also it refuses to accept power from anything other than an official Dell charger regardless of wattage.

I just love this company so much.

[-] Toribor@corndog.social 1 points 11 months ago

I think people that complain about Dell laptops have been using shitty ones. There are a lot of awful Dell laptops but their high end devices like their Precision laptops are really stellar.

[-] ShitOnABrick@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah agreed I was making a joke I used to drive an asus gaming laptop and an normal asus laptop and both laptops had horrible build quality and kept thermal throttling
