Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I don’t get how parents can be this fucking stupid. They have lived on this planet at least twice as long as we have. They should know more than us not less. Instead, they actively refuse to learn new things.
Oh, you're a youngin. You'll understand as you get older that not only are there things that will pop up in popular culture that are clearly targeted towards those younger than you, you will realize that you actively don't care what stupid shit the kids are up to now. That your day will be better if you don't sacrifice mental energy trying to understand.
Skibidi bop bop bop yes yes
Wait, wdym that's old now?
Bro you don’t have to know every meme to understand how jokes work
You don't understand. It's possible not to understand any meme template. To not understand the concept of a meme template. My mom was probably in her 40s when image macros started taking off. She doesn't give a fuck who Thanos is, wouldn't understand the text over the image, wouldn't understand the "this is you" comment.
Imagine someone walking up to you and saying, "Knock knock" and waiting expectedly and you've never heard a knock knock joke before. That's my mom (and lots of moms) and memes.
"knock knock"
"What?"
"Interrupting cow"
"What are yo--"
"MOO"
Hm still works.
Anyway, about memes, there have been illustrations since maybe longer than the written word. You see a picture of the guy using the stairs during a fire instead of an elevator and you don't go "I don't know who that guy is I don't understand".
it's literally a meme, it's not what they expect a low-effort email. also maybe we should send memes over email? there's potential there...
also maybe the original post was fake
Very likely it could be fake but still doesn’t explain how my mom doesn’t understand how a post about how I shit over 20x in one day made it to the front page. “How does anyone have time to read about your pooping?” She says. Parents…
