Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. (If you're only using an excerpt from an article that's otherwise not about LAMF, you can use the quote in the title.) Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.

It’s a shame idiots didn’t listen to those of us who said exactly what would happen. You fucked around. Now you found out. And in the meantime the rest of us got screwed. Gee, thanks.

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 133 points 5 days ago (4 children)

It a shame they didn’t listen to Trump.

He said EXACTLY what he was going to do.

[–] shyguyblue@lemmy.world 82 points 5 days ago (2 children)

"I'm gonna run this country like one of my companies."

Like a fascist dictator, right into the ground...

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 12 points 5 days ago (2 children)

It is kind of funny how the US simultaneously exalts FREEDOM and tyranny. The tyranny being the private realm, where your boss has total control

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 8 points 5 days ago

Which is why we should be talking about "workplace democracy" instead of "socialism".

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 2 points 4 days ago

The issue is that freedom is a paradox; if everyone can do whatever they want, what if doing what you want to do prevents someone else from doing what they want to do? We needed some way to figure out who was allowed to do more, and we decided might makes right. If you want the most freedom for yourself, you need to limit the freedom of others as much as possible, and that's just what those in power did, and continue to do.

He talks so much and said multiple conflicting things.

[–] turdburglar@piefed.social 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

he talks so much and never says anything at all.

I’ll never understand how they could ignore literal millions of loved ones and trust a rich spoiled known scammer to change things for the better for them and not himself, on top of all of us explicitly saying he and republicans will purposely crash the economy and hurt innocent people for fun in the name of religion and conservatism.

'The most uneducated buffoon in history stands at a podium, bloated with self-importance, lips pursed like a carnival barker ready to sell turd milk to the unsuspecting. He grins a grotesque smirk stretched across his face—as he scrawls his name onto a hollow decree, a sham celebration of the dismantling of knowledge itself. The Department of Education falls, not with a bang, but with wheezing verbs, suffocating under the weight of his own staggering ignorance. Surrounding him are the usual suspects: cowards in expensive suits, servile sycophants clapping like trained seals, and opportunistic ghouls picking clean the bones of democracy. Liars, fools, and thieves all parasites fattening themselves on the hardships of the many. They stand in rigid formation, dead-eyed and soulless, their allegiance sworn not to country, not to principle, but to power, and the dark, festering rot that clings to it. And there he is the convicted wrong, the living embodiment of septic tank spew, his voice a noxious fog of grift and grievance. He lectures the world on right and wrong, irony clawing at the walls, desperate to escape the grotesque theatre of his moral void. The stomach turns, the air curdles, and for a moment, history itself recoils watching, in horror, as the great American experiment teeters on the precipice, led by a man who could not spell "precipice" if his life depended on it.'

People will belive anything if they want it,or fear it to be true.

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 17 points 5 days ago

Right, I know that intellectually. I’ll never understand it in my heart.

[–] wittymcusername@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Did I just find Wizard’s First Rule in the wild?

[–] CMDR_Horn@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)
[–] wittymcusername@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

Nice! Having read the first book over 20 years ago and having never watched the TV series, that’s a pretty awesome find for me.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 9 points 5 days ago

It's not Trump they trust, it's his misinformation machine. Manosphere for boys and trad wife content for girls. Andrew Tate evidently knows better than their own people.

[–] waltersf@bookwyr.me 1 points 5 days ago

Same reason capitalism persists.

[–] CrabAndBroom@lemmy.ml 14 points 5 days ago

As a non-American, I repeatedly got told to shut up and mind my own business when I complained about Trump. Well, he got elected and fucked the US, and fucked the rest of the world, and he's threatening to invade my country so it turns out it was my business after all. Cheers for that.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If we're lucky, some of the "both sides" people might take note.

Ah, who am I kidding, they only listen to fascist propaganda.

(not that the establishment Dems don't suck, mind, but still an order of magnitude better than the fucking fascists)

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The unfortunate part of this is that even if the Dems got in, all this other bs would still be brewing until the gop got in power again anyway, and no one would be fighting as hard to establish a socialist movement right now.

That's just about the only silver lining, at least more people can see the consequences of the systems they enable this way. Hopefully the admin doesn't destroy the world first...

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca -5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Ever consider the possibility fascism and socialism both suck?

The center is being squeezed by people suffering from internet brain rot on either side pushing for failed systems of the past. You're getting a taste of why fascism sucks. Do you need to actually experience why socialism sucks for yourself rather than just reading a history book?

If you burn your hand on one burner on the stove do you assume that pressing it on another burner will make it better?

[–] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 9 points 5 days ago

You can enact some socialist policies without become a socialist society.

Socialised healthcare and education is a no-brainer.

[–] lagoon8622@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

You don't even know what the word "socialism" even means; why should we listen to your opinions?

[–] bcgm3@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

They fucked around and we all found out.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The rest of us either fled or dug our heels in and prepared. The MAGA voters who regret their votes are welcome to sacrifice themselves to the frontlines

[–] Ariselas@piefed.ca 3 points 5 days ago (2 children)

But Harris wouldn't support Palestine ...

[–] ddplf@szmer.info 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Listen, I really really like puppies, and that guy doesn't care about puppies at all, so I'm not voting for him.

What, you're worried that the kill-all-puppies party is gonna win? Come on, they're ridiculous, they're not gonna make it, so I may as well vote for them just for the thrill of it.

[–] Ariselas@piefed.ca 8 points 5 days ago

I get it, I'm not an American so can't vote for either. But I do wish my country would get rid of the first around the post system so my vote for the "I like puppies" party actually meant something. And people didn't have to feel that they have to vote for the "kill shelters have the right to defend themselves" guy just to stop the "I hate puppies" guy.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

She WAS going to support Ukraine and now that’s fucked also.

[–] sparky@lemmy.federate.cc 2 points 5 days ago

Except for literally everyone, no one warned them!

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world -5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

"Hey idiot fucking listen to me"

Perhaps the case made to them wasn't made in the most appealing way. Voting is actually about appetites, thus winning messages are more apetising.

[–] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world -4 points 5 days ago

The idea of winning is always going to be the more appetising idea.

[–] ulkesh@piefed.social 6 points 5 days ago (2 children)

People with no critical thinking skills vote the way they do because of their emotions. And that's the problem. If more people voted based on logic and reason and the common good, we would never have been in this darkest timeline.

Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?” Nate White, an articulate and witty writer from England wrote the following response: 'A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief. Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing – not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty. Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults – he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness. There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface. Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we don’t. We see it as having no inner world, no soul. And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege. And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead. There are unspoken rules to this stuff – the Queensberry rules of basic decency – and he breaks them all. He punches downwards – which a gentleman should, would, could never do – and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless – and he kicks them when they are down. So the fact that a significant minority – perhaps a third – of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that: • Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are. • You don’t need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man. This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum. God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws – he would make a Trump. And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: ‘My God… what… have… I… created?' If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.'

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world -1 points 5 days ago

Yep, and I think Trump is particularly good at manipulating the emotions/apetites of his voter base.
