Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

What exactly is a centerfold?
Edit: I know about the existence of magazine posters, I just didn't know that term, English isn't my first language
An early 80s hit song by J. Geils Band.
Hey, at least young people have ‘zines again!
One of my local libraries has a little shelf set aside for local zines. It's so fucking cool, I'm glad they're making a comeback.
my blood just ran cold
When making magazines you'd print long sheets of paper on both sides, lay them together in the right order, staple down the middle, and then fold the whole thing afterwards to make a booklet.
This means that all of your two-page spreads would be on the front of one page, and the back of the next page. All except the "centrefold", where the staples were, that was printed on one continuous sheet of paper. It would have been the bottom of the stack, before you folded it into a book.
This meant you could pull that single sheet out and it would essentially become a poster, and so many magazines would print big images in the centerfold with that in mind. It also helps that the center of a binding like that it is easiest to flip to, it's where the pages naturally want to return, so it helped to put your biggest attraction there.
If you've ever seen the trope / gag where someone is looking at a magazine, and then they turn the magazine sideways to oggle it, chances are the joke is that they're looking at the centerfold, and turning it sideways because this particular image is sideways because the poster is printed to be hung up in portrait orientation.
So anyway, because it was such a main attraction for a magazine, and in particular was a kind of artifact that might live on a wall beyond the normal life of the rest of the magazine, it was considered very high status for a model to be featured even once as the centerfold.
Stolen from TV Tropes:
That cigarette centerfold is hilarious, what's that from?!
Oh, you probably picked it up, but to be absolutely clear, referring to a person as "a centerfold" is basically short for "a model featured in a picture featured in the centerfold of a magazine". Which, again, was a high honour in the field.
The big folded up poster in the center of the magazine, practically the "main attraction" of the whole thing
I do believe it's the name of a stand in Jojos. (/s)
EDIT: Oh wait. It's the user's name. Not the stand.
Like the other person pointed out, what it is is literally in the name.
