From an extremely macro perspective, I can almost see your points, but frankly this just reads to me as “morality is hard, so it’s not even worth trying.” This isn’t about virtue signaling, it’s about whether or not you’re okay with financially supporting rapists.
Everyone can make their own decisions, and what art to consume is super-personal to begin with. But for a person like Neil Gaiman it’s a little more cut and dry, for me at least. I used to be a huge fan, I read most of his books. But I can’t pick up his work anymore without feeling physically ill. He was a beloved author for decades, he wrote strong and complex female characters, and seemingly espoused tolerance and understanding, but it turns out he is probably a serial rapist.
I suggest reading the detailed allegations in the victims’ words, they’re horrific.
