So, I want to just put this message out there about this movie and see what people think. The movie claims to be about being ungrateful comes with danger. I believe this movie is really about a dysfunctional family. Albeit I think Coraline's parents are trying this message of ungratefulness is dangerous. What I think is wrong to do to a child is put the idea that if you are ungrateful to your dysfunctional family this will make you vulnerable to predators. The real life problem is if parents neglect their child they will be vulnerable to predators. Basically your trying to put the responsibility on the child when the responsibility belongs to the adult. I fear that this choice was deliberate and perhaps the movie is trying to fuel the dysfunctional family. Trying to shift blame where it doesn't belong. That is exactly what dysfunctional families do. What does everyone think?

Man that is tough. I am so glad I wasn't in school when corporal punishment was allowed. I looked it up and it was still allowed but I never witnessed it and then it was gone and I was very young. I do remember parents loving the fact that they came off scary to us children. It was one of those unsettling memories that made me wonder why.

Is this breaking the rules?

Thank you for sharing about the lack of support you are encountering when talking to the experts on what to do. When it came to understanding myself and others I found books more helpful than the experts. So, I definitely can relate to the lack of support when it comes to talking to the experts. I wish I could help with your situation but I am nowhere near qualified to help. I really do hope you find the answers. I am really fighting the urge to put my two cents in on maybe this/ maybe that lol. But really I do hope for the best for you.

First my post is about getting rid of spanking all together. In Europe the child has a right to a non-violent upbringing; even psychological injuries are not allowed. Did you know that "spanking alters children’s brain response in ways similar to severe maltreatment and increases perception of threats." According to https://www.gse.harvard.edu/ideas/usable-knowledge/21/04/effect-spanking-brain "Our findings suggest that spanking is not an effective technique and actually makes children’s behavior worse not better" https://www.psychologicalscience.org/news/releases/spanking-linked-to-increase-in-childrens-behavior-problems.html

I am just pointing out what the scientific literature says. I don't doubt some people love their children very much and spank. I think the science is showing something we should all be aware of.

The bible says love thy neighbor as thyself. I believe he is including children here. Psalms 103:13 "like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth him that fear him." I believe the Bible does tell parents to show children mercy and love.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jun/26/un-deaths-immigration-custody-human-rights-law
UN calls for ‘prompt investigations’ of deaths in US immigration custody. It looks like the U.N. is getting involved. I am not saying it's going to fix anything. I am saying something is happening where the U.N. is trying to hold people accountable. At least something is happening here that might lead to some good.

This all has to do with people abusing human rights. Children's human rights are being violated by parents abusing them. And Human rights are being violated by Trump and how he is abusing the people he doesn't like. Children's human rights matter just as much as the people who are being detained by Trump.

Ok, what it seems to boil down to is if things were as bad as you say the U.N. would be interfering. Why isn't the U.N. stepping in to protect human rights. Since you are pointing out this violation to human rights that I was unaware of. I would like to point out this other violation of human rights I can't seem to get many people on board with.

European countries have outlawed spanking have legally redefined parental autonomy to a child's right to protection and non-violent upbringing. Even psychological injuries are not allowed. The law holds parents as authority in education, health, and daily routines. But the law treats the child as an individual citizen with the same basic human rights as an adult. I think America should put this law into force. The law should treat children as individual citizens. Here is some articles I found that show some merit to what I am saying. I don't think spanking should be allowed on children.

According to Whitfield M.D. 80 to 90% of families are dysfunctional. According to https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/spanking-can-pose-long-term-harms-to-children-5-decade-analysis-suggests show As many as 80 percent of parents worldwide spank their children, according to a 2014 UNICEF report. ( sorry I couldn't find a more recent survey of parents who spank)

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c2eyke83yz9o It observed that those who had been smacked saw the likelihood of them failing to get five pass grades (A*-C) at GCSE level, including English and Maths, increase by 5.7 percentage points. Smacking children could lead to lower GCSE grades, study suggest

https://theconversation.com/corporal-punishment-of-children-linked-to-lower-school-grades-50497 this study showed that "We found that children who reported experiencing corporal punishment at age eight had on average significantly lower maths scores at age 12 in India, Peru and Vietnam. The size of the negative effect was large."

https://www.gse.harvard.edu/ideas/usable-knowledge/21/04/effect-spanking-brain research shows that spanking alters children’s brain response in ways similar to severe maltreatment and increases perception of threats.

Legislative universal bans of physical punishment have been implemented in 65 countries across the world. America's attitude toward spanking in the school is very different than spanking in the home. 55% of Americans believe a child does need a good spanking sometimes. According to experts the 80%-90% of Americans are a dysfunctional home. According to Whitfield M.D. about 90% of families are dysfunctional, dysfunctional families have a high prevalence of PTSD. PTSD is likely to cause children to have bad grades. Children are likely to be spanked in American homes for poor academic performance. This points to a circular problem. Spanking has shown to alter the brain in ways similar to severe maltreatment. My solution was getting rid of spanking and adopt a method that Europe is already doing. The law holds parents as authority on education, health, and daily routines but the law treats the child as an individual citizen with the same basic rights as an adult. The child has a right to a non-violent upbringing; even psychological injuries are not allowed. I posted something similar on Reddit and I am pretty sure someone was threatening death to anyone who thinks we should get rid of parental autonomy. Do people really feel that strongly about parental autonomy? This article shows America is in the majority favor of spanking just not in schools. I am not sure why. Do we not trust the teachers to administer spankings correctly?

Can you provide a link to nostupidquestions because this website is hard to navigate. Just because I feel like I am being treated unfairly here I am just going to add that if I did thing this way https://piefed.social/c/politics@lemmy.world/p/2446899/democrats-abandon-trans-voters-at-their-peril I could have gotten people to respond to my post about how people are upset about getting rid of parental autonomy? Without them avoiding my question because I didn't break the rules the correct way.

Seriously, I am getting a rash of crap for not following the rules. Apparently this is how you post what you want and not follow the rules.

Can you post a link to the no stupid questions. Since this forum is extremely limiting. This website is not an easy place to navigate where things are.
